Forget about releasing information, it's very possible Canon may not be able to release the camera itself because of COVID-19...

Yeah, that would be a disaster and extremely frustrating especially after waiting so long for this.

Highly likely - I'm already noticing some lens manufacturers flagging delays. It depends where parts are being manufactured, but it seems China is the primary or secondary source for most things electronic these days.

The article talks about a specific product, DRAM that is used on the a9 sensor and was planned to trickle down to lower end Sony cameras. Its also needed for other Sony products, so Cameras are going to make due with current sensor technology. Its very possible that Canon has the same issues with DRAM shortages, super fast memory is needed for 8K video readouts.

Many of the mundane internal components come from China, with the Japanese manufacturers using JIT manufacturing, a supply disruption hits the factory pretty quickly since factories are putting out parts in smaller lots when possible to avoid storing a lot of inventory. Some companies can absorb the higher prices that will be needed to maintain a supply of parts. Cameras are not likely in that category due to slower sales. Phones are also a competitive business and TV sets are price sensitive. Prices are going to jump for sure.
