Original Canon LP-E6N Seen as Counterfeit

Ordered two original Canon LP-E6N's from big NY store in June. Both in new Canon packaging. Just started trying to use them today. Both have embossed date of 2018 08. One is 100% fine. The other is flaky.

First my R reported it as counterfeit, and so did my 5DIV. On the phone with CPS, I tried it my 80D. No problem! Put it back in the 5DIV, no problem. But it still is seen as a counterfeit by the R.

CPS had no suggestions for "resetting" the battery, etc. The rep helping me searched a long time for anything similar, but nothing came up.

Anybody else seeing this issue, maybe especially with the R? Thanks! (My firmware is the latest, 1.4.)

It's quite possible that the battery has a faulty chip in it.
There's a chip inside that tells the camera that this is a genuine battery, and if the chip has gone west, the camera will treat it as an aftermarket battery.
I have some aftermarket E6's, and they seem to work fine in my R.

Two possibilities:

• faulty originals
• indeed counterfeit

Two solutions:

• claim for warranty/bad product at the retailer
• send it to Canon service for check
