<p><strong>New Cameras in August

</strong>We will be seeing new PowerShot cameras announced in August. I am told not to expect anything revolutionary in the line. Merely minor refreshes.</p>
<p>The most notable camera updates will be to the G12, S95 and SX30 IS.</p>
<p>I’m told a small megapixel bump to the G12 & S95 and 1080p video options. The SX30 IS replacement may move to the same type of image sensor as the aforementioned cameras.</p>
<p>Any rumor about CMOS based PowerShot’s have died off. There’s nothing in regards to a larger sensor PowerShot either.</p>
<p>All of this will heat up more over the next 60 days or so.</p>

Any rumor about CMOS based PowerShot’s have died off. There’s nothing in regards to a larger sensor PowerShot either.

There haven't been a single digicam with 1080p and CCD-sensor, but let's hope that they've managed it this time. CMOS in small sensors haven't exactly been a success so far when it comes to image quality.

Like gene_can_sing I'm normally here to look for DSLR news. This time is different - I'm in the market for a smaller camera for a bicycle trip in September. I wonder if there is any hope for a G12 or S95 successor to actually be available by then?

How strong is the rumor that the SX40 will have a G12 sized sensor? If Canon make that camera and they put a large viewfinder in it I think it would be great. I have my fingers crossed that this rumor is true

But I also wait for s95 successor. My mother has got interested with cameras for the last 2 months. Since DSLR is to complex to learn, I will choose powershot for her

I was quite surprised to see S95 receiving such high attention from my office's non-camera people (i.e. those who has never - nor interested - in DSLRs).

Most of them like the compact size of the S95, though some prefer colors other than black *shrug*.

At least it made a louder bang than the G-series

THat's why I have one. Not sure a minor update (similar to the S90 to S95) would tempt me to get the new one, though. The current S95 performs quite well, and if I really need 1080p I have a camcorder for that. If the 'small megapixel bump' comes in the same sensor size and means more noise, no thanks...

Simple. Merely alter the laws of physics such that a zoom lens which can project a FF image circle can fit into a P&S-type form factor. Or, maybe they could do it now with a 35-80mm f/8-16 lens. I bet that would work for you, right?

They need to make a G12 like camera that has a fast 24-70mm lens on it and can fit in your pocket. But, it also has the ability to use a prime EF lens by using an adapter ring.

It is small and sealed when you need that functionality, yet, the zoom range can be impressive with the existing line of lenses.

That's because it's impossible. CCD sensors simply aren't fast enough to handle 1080p.

I know it's "Canon Rumors" but someone should have caught that huge inconsistency before posting the rumor.
