You can now preorder the brand new Canon EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R camera bodies. The cameras will begin shipping on June 29, 2015 and we suspect it’s going to be a very popular release. If you want one of the first bodies available, preordering is probably the best way to improve your chances.

I'm looking forward to seeing prints, if my 24x36 sized prints look better with one of these bodies than my 6D, I'll start saving for one.
I'm sure you'll notice more detail in your images in about 1 meter impressions.

The question is:
This detailing will continue to be better than 5D Mark iii, even at high ISO?

Pre-ordered the 5Ds R so I'd be in line, but don't know if I'll keep it or not. Since I bought the 1D X a year ago, I rarely find myself using the 5DIII for anything over ISO800 and I have a slew of sharp lenses, so it might work out well for me. I can see some creative possibilities with all of those MPs, too, and the ability to crop with abandon could be really helpful for some of the stuff I do as well. I'll have to give it some more thought between now and June...

I'd really like this for printing big (30"x20"+) with maximum resolution in the photos for landscapes but I wasn't overly impressed with the 7D2 image quality compared to my 5D3. I'll be sticking with Perfect Resize for now to increase available pixels for print resolution.

For me, I'm thinking I'll hold off for the 1DXII because I also need more fps than what the 5D3 provides.

According to the previews on Imaging Resource, the answer appears to be yes (at least when at the same dimensions).

In the right conditions, it seems as if the 5DS(R) will give you a more detailed image at the expense of more noise...and if you were to apply enough noise reduction to the 5DS file, you may be able to get similar output to the 5D3. But then the question becomes whether it is worth the huge files and added expense for little to no overall quality gain. This will clearly be a low-ISO outdoor/studio camera.

I am right on the edge. Will buy immediately if I feel the IQ of my shots - on my monitor - is better than my 5d3. If not then what is the point? None for me.

Stand back from the edge. On your monitor there will be no difference in detail, none, zero. There might be a noticeable difference in colour and contrast, but that is nothing more than simple profiles.

It depends on what you shoot, how you shoot it and what you shoot it with. But most people printing 24x36 (assuming that is inches not centimeters) will see an improvement in detail at those sizes if they use good technique at low iso's.

Very true, but it will take a lot longer to scroll around with 100% zoom and to run any filters or processing on the files. The hard disk will groan every time you download photos as well :)

Re: Preorder the Canon EOS 5DS & EOS 5DS R Now

It's a specialized EOS for certain. The last two weekends affirmed my desire for the usefulness of what 50MP can provide. "Cropping with reckless abandon." The last two weekends have been dance school work, and even with a trained eye for what they do, it's impossible to perfectly frame a shot like the one here, because you can't predict exactly where they will wind up from one leap to the next. Not only that, but it can be equally as difficult to recreate such a shot, catching the dancer at the absolute apex of the jump. What you see below is about 2/3 of the actual sensor area on my 5D3. The AF tracked her very well, but she wound up more in the upper right of the frame. With 50MP, I could have nailed this same shot, framed it just like this in post, and still had 15MP-25MP on her. Being able to take a wider shot to make sure I get my dancers all in frame without worrying over lost resolution is huge for me.

Oh, and my apologies, the only file I have with me at the time I'm posting this is a small jpg rendered for facebook, but you get the idea. This is the sort of work I'm buying the 5DS for. The R scares me a bit with moire on such clothing.
I also like having more resolving power for group pictures with 15-20 dancers. More pixels hitting each face for better detail, again especially for cropping.

(Lighting with 2 Buff Einsteins and 2 Alien Bees 400. T1 was about 1/1350th sec on Constant Color Mode. Camera at 1/125 f11 - Sigma 50mm Art)
