Price point of the 5D Mark IV

All are welcome to take a stab at this.

Back in 2012 the 1D X came out at $6,800 and the 5D Mark III at $3500.

Fast forward to today and the 1D X Mark II is priced at $6,000 making me wonder if the 5D Mark III replacement will be sold at $3,100 or lower.

Would be nice to happen as the 5D Mark III now sells at $2,500 and the 1D X at $4,600.

The cost in US dollars will be heavily influenced by the exchange rate Canon USA negotiates with Canon Japan. Early in 2012 there were ~76 yen per dollar. Now it's closer to 117 yen per dollar. The announced price of the 1DXII actually represents a significant increase over the original 1DX price when converted to yen.

$3,500 would have been 266,000 yen in 2012. 266,000 yen now would be ~ $2,275. Is it any wonder that third party importers can "land" 5DIII's in the U.S. for less than what Canon USA is charging.

I remember being overjoyed when the 5DII was $2699. A few years late the 5DIII was $3499. I believe the original 5D was similar to the price of he 5DII... think.

IIRC, the original 5D was $3299 on release (~$4000 in 2015 dollars).

Your memory is correct according to wikipedia
