I wonder if Canon will replace this beast with an RF version. I suppose they would. The company seems to want to replicate its EF lens list for the R mount. It would be strange if it left this classic off.

I wonder what the speed of the lens would be. F 1.2, 1.4? The MSRP? $6500, $7000?

I think once we see a 5D and 1D in mirrorless, the "big boy" lenses will follow. I'm more of a 300 f/2.8 kinda guy...but we'll see. I'm personally more interested in seeing what they do with the 135L because I use that lens very often.

I don't think there is demand for a 200mm lens with larger than 100mm entrance pupil.
Canon made a 200mm f/1.8 lens, and apparently sold several thousands copies between '88 and '04. Rumors say it was discontinue due to hazardous materials in the glass, rather than lack of demand.

Yet, its optical quality (as seen on "The Digital Picture") was far from brilliant wide open...

What do you mean by bread and butter lenses btw?
He probably means lenses that are not going to cost $7,000 and sell very few copies... except for the big tele lenses for birding and sports. A RF 70-200mm IS f/2.8L would be a bread and butter lens, also a 135mm and true macro lenses. Then there's the non-L lenses. I don't mean to speak for you, Mr. Spokane, that's just my interpretation of what I think you were saying. No disrespect intended. I hold your experience and knowledge in high esteem. I have learned a lot from many of your posts.
