The rumored "head scratcher" Eos R Camera - arguments for a high mp model.

About one month ago it was rumored that we can expect a new full frame camera from the eos r line, and that it will be a "head scratcher".

Much discussion was had about what it could possibly be, and many beleved it may be an astro model. I dont think that will be the case.
Canon always have only a few types of sensors in their most current camera lineup. For eg at the moment:
26mp sensor for their budged ff, 30mp sensor for the 5d/eos r, the 20 mp for idx ii and 50mp for the 5ds/r

I dont beleve they will develop an extra sensor just for astro photograpgy. But as we know, most of canons ff camera lines arent soon due for an update, except
the idx and 5ds/r line. Camera development includes sensor development, which means that probably only the new idx and new 5ds/r sensor is far in its development.
This would mean that this possible astro camera would either use one of those two new sensors, or reycle an old one. which is all equaly unlikely.

As the 5ds/r is probably due for an update, if we asume a 5 year cicle, it could be the rumored camera for late 2019. The headscratcher would be the high mp count.

As the 5ds/r sensor is basicaly a scaled up version of the 70d sensor, and there was a 2 year gap between the 70d and the 5ds/r, it could also mean that we wont see
a eos r high mp model until 2021, if we asume a 90d release in august this year.

Past releases are not a guarantee of future releases. Canon will release bodies on the schedule that fits their current marketing and development plans.

But how would a high mp body be considered a 'head scratcher'? That doesn't seem right as a high mp body is almost logical.

It could have a strange form factor, or lack a hot shoe or have an 'selfie' screen on the front. Just having a high MP sensor doesn't mean it's anything like like a 5Ds or R.
