*UPDATE*

[CR3] was a typo, it should be [CR2]. Sorry about that. I have heard from others places we’ll be seeing new PowerShots around the 15th of September.

When?

The first announcement date I have received is September 15, 2011. There are events planned in Shanghai, China on September 16, 2011.

By the looks of it, it’ll be compacts (PowerShot) only.

When else?

September 27 should be another announcement date. There will be events on September 28 showing off new Canon printing solutions. Invites are out for various European countries.

DSLR?

All is quiet on the DSLR front.

..."nobody" is more a subjective statement than reality.

I think that after Panasonic and others released new super zoom cameras, Canon is the only major company that still has a cam with 720P, 2.7 LCD monitor and other things that could be "newer" They have still SX30IS with 34X, but it needs a "refresh".

Many people do not care about having a suitcase with 3-4 lenses, tripod and other stuff.
Yes maybe they are not IQ freaks, and just want a decent image, not state of the art quality.

Maybe they do not have 1000-5000$ to use for a camera... but stating that "nobody" is interested for that, it's like living on another planet.

Yeah, but is it too little to late? Seriously who cares about Powershots when you can buy and iPhone or an Android and get almost the same results?

The end of line for these things can't be far away now, Canon needs to address the other end of the market now, or risk loosing it.

S95 and SX10 IS are both powershots, as is the old A590IS . . . they do and will continue to blow smartphones cameras out of the water . . . it's like using a moped to get groceries 10 miles away.

They cover "crap, I forgot my camera" moments and nothing more.

ahhh OK, if we begin to compare an IPhone built-in cam with a P&S, or a "bridge" camera, then I can just drop out of this thread...

I am expecting soon an IPhone with 24-35X optical zoom, hot shoe, video 1080/30fps... and all the rest and in pocket size.
It's like opening a thread in IPhone forum and begin to talk about SX30IS or S95 IQ.

I misunderstood this forum.. I thought it was about photography/Canon cameras.

yeah very quiet. I was at IFA today and it didn't really look like Canon was planning to relase a new DSLR anytime soon. While (of course) noone said anything, one employee "indicated" he doesn't believe there would be a new EOS body coming out before Photokina next year. Sounded quite reasonable to me and I fear he could be right. But who knows...
