I read someone guessing over at dpr about a considerable higher entry price of a 5DIII. I know it its pure fiction, but what could be the reason for if so? Technically enhanced body?
I don't believe so...
How much has 5DII dropped in price since introduction? ???
IMO they wish to sell more cameras, and for that they must make it appealing to more enthusiasts who will wish for FF. Pros and consumers alike are more than burned by economy and buying fancy cameras is reserved for only those who need new gear for more than just games.
Price should be lower for them to achieve that. also tech they will probably upgrade it with is way cheaper today than it would be few years back.
Oh and it would be smart to call it 6D! People would be fooled it is WAY way better. 8)
I don't think the 5D mark III will be significantly more expensive than the current 5D. It seems that next generation camera bodies don't increase in price as significantly as lenses.
Perhaps the 5DIII will be marginally more expensive than 5DII when first introduced... given all the hypes about 5DII and how people are holding their breath for the next 5D installation (why not capitalize on reputation?).
However, that's only if Canon decides not to add some fancy functions and use it as a justification to jack up the price...
I am guessing it will be higher based on the newer upcoming features.
We've all heard about it. RAW video, etc.
Maybe from $2,999-3,999 range.
I think it will be Fall 2011.
I just hope the focusing issues get addressed and better video. 21MP is enough. Some new fancy DIGIC processor probably. And to be picky... some work on the higher iso grain. that's it..
...but those things probably don't warrant a mkIII upgrade in Canon's eyes. They'll have to add something like 3d video, a flux-capacitor and a drink holder before it gets upgraded.
