Well, this looks like an interesting shot in the dark for Canon. The PowerShot V10 is is geared to vlogging, and it is eerily similar to a smartphone, without the smartphone functionality. We were wrong on our guess of it being a new PTZ camera. The PowerShot V10 will be available in black or silver

Can we copy/paste this response to every CR news post automatically? It would save a lot of internet effort :)
Most of the news posts here refer to gear that is potentially valuable and brings something new and useful to the table. But I seriously can't see who this V10 is aimed at, or what they could achieve with it that they can't already do with a smartphone.

Looking at form factor not going to have a 1" sensor but probably something smaller(probably smaller than 2/3" size).

Edit: looked up on digicame and leaked specs mention 1" sensor(with slight crop due to optics) so its going to be decent enough for target audience.

What am I missing?

Can it do anything that a smartphone can't?

The whole planet has already got a smartphone - why would anyone need this?
1" sensor with wider lens than what most cellphones have.

No, it is the same with all new gear posted here ...
It will give you (photo- and videowise) everything a smartphone would give you but in better quality.
That is enough. It is aimed to vlogging. Just read the article.

It's OK, I've sussed out the market for this camera. It has a built-in stand, so it's for people who vlog from home, and don't want to buy a table tripod, and it's for home porn production.

Yeah, most wide angle cameras on smartphones have pretty small image sensors and do not have the best quality.

I'd be curious to see what the sensor is behind this lens. If it's a 1" or better, I would get one, especially if it can do 4k 60p. Right now I use a GoPro Hero 9 mounted on top of my camera so I can have "B" roll video for weddings while I'm shooting. But it sucks in low light. Been waiting on GoPro to put out a 1" edition for better low light performance, but if this does that then I'm set!

Hmm... sounds like a good plan to make extra revenue... Can you recommend good light that preserve natural skin colors? And I assume the battery/storage is plenty enough for the needed 30 second performance?

If I can ask for unicorn, please make it support 1080p240. Currently need to shell plenty money for anything with EF mount, and other mount options are not cheap either. I just want to take high frame rate video occasionally. (or make FW update for R5 to support 1080p240, I'd take that. Currently supports 4k120 so 1080p240 should be doable if they wanted)

Also Vixia mini was quite popular among Vloging crowd(atleast in Asia) and this looks like a decent replacement for that camera with larger sensor.

It will be interesting to see if Canon makes the sensor for this one. Most of their 1" sensor still cameras used Sony sensors, but not the canon 1" video cameras. The mention above of it having a 1" sensor with a slight crop might suggest a Sony sensor.
Most like the same sensor found in Sony Rx0 series of cameras.

Edit: More photos of new camera:

Canon pretty much purged their camcorders of Sony sensors.
All of the Sony sensors were contrast-detect autofocus.
So Omnivision sensor as canon doesnt seem to have 1in sensor with that pixel count?
