The forum will be moving to a new domain in the near future (canonrumorsforum.com). I have turned off "read-only", but I will only leave the two forum nodes you see active for the time being.

I don't know at this time how quickly the change will happen, but that will move at a good pace I am sure.

Hi folks,

My 16-35L II has a problem at the moment where the focus ring cannot be turned manually, either whilst in AF or MF mode (on the lens).
The lens still focuses perfectly in AF drive mode, but it will not move to manually focus at all, has anyone ever experienced a fault like this? and if so, what was the solution/repair bill?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated :-[

I had exactly this problem with 100-400 II. The AF worked perfectly fine, only manual focus did not. It was USM motor and I've been told by CPS service they seen this problem with other lenses before. And I've been told it is just a time when AF will stop working as well. It's been replaced under warranty.

Believe it or not, I found an instructional video on Youtube that shows how to remove the rubber on the focus ring to reveal a small screw, you will find it is loose, simply add a touch of thread lock then tighten the screw, Voilà, c'est fini 8)

That is one I haven't heard? A single screw securing the focus ring by friction? I hope that fixes it, and the OP posts back to let us know.
