The forum will be moving to a new domain in the near future (canonrumorsforum.com). I have turned off "read-only", but I will only leave the two forum nodes you see active for the time being.

I don't know at this time how quickly the change will happen, but that will move at a good pace I am sure.

All I Want For Christmas is a 5D Mk III...

So I was thinking...What would it take for Canon to announce a 5D Mk III in time for Christmas? Maybe a few thousand people saying they would be happy to buy one!

I'm in.

Anyone else?

p.s. If you work for Canon and see this post getting lots of replies, please tell your boss!

I think it would take a lot more than that, frankly. I don't think there's any doubt in Canon's mind that there is a market for the 5D3. it's not a will-it-sell-or-not question at this point.

it's a lot more to do with production schedules, maximizing profit off the existing 5D2, and trying to time its placement relative to other products expected to come to market.

I always bite on these but this time I'm going to do something different. I've been good this year Santa.

I'd like to see Canon give us something more akin to the Leica M9. I'd love for Canon to give us a digital rangefinder sized full frame camera, it would set the world of photography ablaze.

This is a much smaller camera than the current 5D series. A bit bigger than the Panasonic GF1, but very smiliar in form factor, but with a bump out for a hand grip. I'm also talking mirrorless. By removing the mirror, the flange distance would be reduced thus enabling a new, smaller set of leneses to be utilized. Of course EF lenses would still work.

Specs:

Canon R
2k evf
2k 3.25in tilting lcd
Three customizable thumb wheels (one on the back and two where SONY! ;) put them on the NEX7)
30 mpx
10 fps
dual digic 5 (whatever that means)
19 af points (multiple cross type)
clean iso up to 6400 (12800 looks damn good still)
dual sd slots
1080p 60p video 4:2:2
***

Canon R ($4999) launches with 3 compact prime lenses:

24 1.4 ($1999)
85 1.4 ($1999)
135 2.0 macro ($1599)

That's just where you show that you don't understand anything about what you are talking about. ;)

I get tired about all these whining people and these non-sense wishlists (no offense, I don't point out you in that sentence :))

Canon will release when it will decide it will time to do so. And I bet a lot that Nikon will do a move almost at the same time (probably before by the way).
Canon will use the technology that it thinks is the most suitable for its products. Offering the best quality with a affordable price.

Nobody knows what it is. And whatever you do, Canon doesn't care about you/we want. Fact. Period.

Really? Although not explicitly stated by Justin, it's implied that an adapter would be required. But with such an adapter, which Canon has apparently already patented, an EF lens could certainly be mounted to a smaller, mirrorless body.

These are the bits that are kinda mutually exclusive here:
Tilting LCD, 3 thumb wheels, Dual Digic5, Dual SD slots, and ***, all within an M9 (or so) sized body? You could barely fit all of that in a 1000D sized body...

19 AF points, uh, where? in front of the sensor and then it slides out of the way to take the photo? no mirror means no phase AF...

Is it an M9ish rangefinder? is it a NEXish MILC? an A77ish EVIL? Macro doesn't really work with rangefinders, too much parallax-error for focussing. MILC doesn't have an evf and lcd in the same body. and why would you have an evf in a body that constantly reads the sensor, isn't the lcd good enough (especially if they're both '2k')?

And then why use Canon R-mount? it's only 2mm shorter than EF, and no specification for electronic contacts (so yes, EF lenses may 'mount', but won't 'work' with respects to AF, IS, or even electronic Aperture, so wide open only)

the 5D MK3 will sure be a nice camera... but what more and more customer ask is, if there will be a ~1300-1500 euro FF camera from canon with the 7D AF system.

i don´t say that such a camera would make sense to canon... just that people would love to see such a camera and asking about a cheaper FF alternative. most of these people would glady give up all the video features.
