BG-E11 Street Date / Availability?

Has anyone seen/heard anything regarding the release/shipping date for the BG-E11 battery grip? It seems all the major e-tailers have them available for "pre-order", but not in stock. I'm pretty hardcore about shooting with grips - my big paws just aren't comfortable with the stand-alone body. I'm dying here!

I feel your pain! Although I am enjoying the 5DmkIII's feature improvements right now, I'm getting annoyed not having the grip. My pinky is dangling off the bottom and is starting to itch haha!

I too am waiting for this grip! I saw a website that stated April 30 as an availability date.

I don't remember how the 5D2/7D/x0's were launched, but it is usual for it to get delayed a month over the release?

Maybe plugging it in will offer f/8 AF, true 1080p video resolution and at 60fps, clean HDMI out, and 9fps stills, and they just have to debug all those new features.

Does anyone know if the BG for the 5D2 works with the 5D3? I recall during the initial announcement that it was listed as being compatible, but subsequently removed from the list of compatible accessories.

I tried it (carefully) out of curiosity. It seems to want to fit, but it hits some kind of block before the battery-shaped protrusion seats fully in the battery compartment. Whether that's an unavoidable design difference or an intentional redesign, I don't know, but I do know that the BG-E11 has significant improvements (ie. quick control), so I'm not too upset that they made another one. I am a little upset that they couldn't release it the same day as the 5D3, though. The "naked" 5D3 feels so solid - it has weight, but in a good way. I really want to see how it feels with the full grip.

I've always thought Nikon's higher-end DSLR's felt like cameras that Batman would design.. The 5D3 feels that way to me, and I know it will be even more so with the grip attached.

No- it doesn't fit. The tripod screw is about 1mm over from where it should be. I did not want to force it. It didn't even feel close, to be honest.

You need to take afternoon tea more often. That will teach that picky finger to just dangle there.

No, half the point of the 5D3 is that it is ungripped.

what if the 3rd party battery grips came out before the canon one does? How do they make them anyways, do they have to dissect the originals and re create them cheaper? I got a cheap one for my t2i and it works great except the battery indicator does not work, it just goes from full to dead(not a huge deal as I have a feel for when it is about to happen anyways). does this happen with other 3rd party grips as well?
