I have been doing some night shooting with my 11-22. Compared to the 17-40 on a 5d2 it's a little sharper, but it doesn't deal with the lights in the frame nearly as well.

I'm really liking my 16-35 f/4 IS, so I decided to order one of these from across the border in Canada. It will be a couple of weeks before it arrives, but I look forward to posting shots here as well. You guys are taking great shots and look forward to seeing more work on this thread.

I already have Rokinon for EOS-M 12 mm. F = 2.0, And Tamron 11-17 MM ( For EF Lens + EF to EF-M convertor) + FE-M 22 mm and EF-M 18-55 mm.----
What do you think, I should buy EF-M 11-22 mm = $ 499 US Dollars ?

Hey Surapon, thanks for the compliments! I wouldn't class myself as "great" lol! Still learning a lot about photography!
I haven't used the Rokinon 12mm so I can't directly compare or comment but the 11-22mm is a real cracking lens for the money. This is what I found -
At 11mm it shows the usual amount of vignetting (not an issue as you know easily fixed). I would say it's a tiny bit softer at this focal length than others but overall the image is consistent and corners look good. More than acceptable and comparable to the 17-40L. Distortion seems quite low too and even without a lens profile corrrection it seems fine.
The colors look nice and vibrant with only a little addition in post to make them look good. The IS though is the real winner for me. You can handhold this at 11mm for 1s and get a reasonably sharp shot. That means for 99% of what I do I no longer need a tripod. Evening, sunset and blue hour shots are much easier now!
The build quality is superb, bit like the 18-55 EF-M. Doesn't come with a hood but I recommend getting it as the front element is almost flush with the filter thread and exposed. I almost bumped it and scraped it so after that I always keep the hood on!
The lens has a switch to make it more compact. It's nice but slows down shooting as you can't take pics until you unlock it. It's better to keep it unlocked tbh. But for storage it's a nice feature to have.
The lens feels well balanced on the body and together they make an awesome combo. Shooting all day is a pleasure! AF is perhaps quicker than the 22mm lens but I need to test that to be sure. I'm using BBF using the star key at the back these days. Works well.
The sweet spot seems to be somewhere around 12-17mm @ f5.6 - f8 which is my usual shooting settings. The lens doubles up as a walkaround when used at 22mm, which means less lens swicthing. However at f/5.6 you start to crave the wide apertures of the pancake for bokehliciousness!
I got mine in Japan for under $400 (¥38,000) btw so for me (UWA nutter that I am) it was a no brainer! Best bang for buck lens I have I reckon! Just for scouting possible wide angle shots it's useful. I can easily shoot multiple locations in fading light and then get an idea of what would work best and then go back and shoot with FF if I wanted at a later date. However the quality is good enough that I was happy with the test shots alone!
I'm seriously thinking of selling my 17-40L now but might hang on to it for a while as I have no money to upgrade to the 16-35 f/4L IS.
If Canon made a small EF M 50mm prime my EOS M set would be complete. I'm "making do" with a pretty darn good FD 50mm 1.4 ssc and adpater which does a great job but I miss the AF at this focal length. Considering buying the 18-55 just for 50mm and AF but the f/5.6 puts me off after seeing what f1.4 looks like! Bokeh!!!

Got the little guy from Aden Camera (in Canada) today. It's a nice little lens to join my M lineup and I'm excited to use it on some upcoming trips. I wish it were a hair wider, but 18mm is still way wider than any compact camera!

Congrats, I'm sure you'll love it! Yeah I wish it were wider too but as a general walkaround it perfect. Can't wait to see your pics!

Here's one recentish pic (November) of a place called Kourankei near Toyota city in Aichi prefecture in Japan. People come here to see the autumn leaves and the night time illumination of the trees by the river.
It's times like this when I particularly appreciate this lens and camera combo! The bridge was packed with people and there was almost nowhere to set up a full sized tripod. There would be no point anyway due to the vibrations from people walking on the bridge.
This was shot at 1/5s, f/5.6, ISO 800 with the lens @ 11mm

I compared it against the 24-70 f/2.8 II on the 5DIII (not really a fair comparison). It's wasn't anything scientific, but looking at two similar shots, the 11-22 is nearly as sharp, has 90% of the contrast, and only lacks in flare resistance. I'm very impressed and the IS came in handy for the fireworks as well.

Nice! Handheld fireworks shot, that's impressive! Yeah the IS totally rocks on this lens. I see you shot at ISO 6400, the shot looks amazingly clean, was that from the DXO prime processing? Maybe I should look into that.
Btw the hotel shot isn't loading on my end.

Also, yes, DxO PRIME is pretty amazing at dealing with noise and detail at ISOs over 3200, and is well worth the cost of DxO if you do much high ISO work. I've been using DxO for years and don't find it to be the easiest tool to work with or learn, but it gives great results. When they added PRIME, it really took it up to a new level.
Zv, I fixed the link to the hotel view shot and I took about 30 or 40 fireworks shots handheld around 1/4 to 1/16s and at least 90% of them turned out, so that's definitely a testament to the IS.Zv said:mackguyver said:Interesting shot, Zv! Thanks I can see the image now. I'll definitely look into Prime, thanks for the tip though I usually stay below ISO 3200 looking at my library.

I like these shots as well and I think the M + 11-22 is about the perfect travel combo so I'm not surprised that it was your most used lens. Thanks for sharing your work.

I highly recommend the 11-22 that I use with both the M and M3.
I decided to try a quick comparison between my EF-M 11-22 and my new EF 11-24 on an M3, not that I'd actually shoot the 11-24 on an APS body in any other circumstance. It was more to get a feel for how the 11-22 compared. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate so getting comparable shots with the clouds streaming by overhead was not possible - light, shadows, and exposure were constantly changing. Based on the shots I did get I'm favorably impressed with the M3/11-22 combo. From my limited sample it appears to do as well in the center as the 11-24 on the M3, maybe better in the corners. Photos with the 11-24 on a 6D are still in another league.
I'll give it another try when I'm back in July under full sun for a better comparison.
