Canon has delayed the next EOS R5 Mark II shipments by potentially 6 months.

To be honest, I don\'t get it.

First they\'re late to develop, then they\'re late to announce, now they\'re late to ship?

Not sure about other brands - but never heard of such problems with Nikon or Sony. They just produce and sell on the go.

I'm honestly spent doing customer service for these sorts of things. My inbox is hit everyday. Hopefully this gives some clarity, even though this situation is completely baffling to most everyone

This is why abiding by the strict 3-4 year incremental upgrade of hardware makes little sense to me. I think technology is at a level now where the life of these solid machines could be extended to last for a good 6 to 7 year cycle with software.

On what timeline were they late to develop it and announce it? Did someone at Canon tell you their internal timeline, and then Canon missed it? Or are you just basing this on rumors or your own expectations? Pretty sure that’s it. So no, they weren’t late.

Canon developed and announced it when they were ready to, and started shipping it when they said they would in the announcement (many people apparently received theirs, even before the stated date). How do you figure any of that is late?

Of course, none of that excuses their failure to provide adequate supply to meet demand. Still, this seems to be the new canon (little c) for Canon. For the most part, people who place a pre-order just after the announcement receive their camera/lens from the first shipment, which usually goes out on time. People who waited…will have to wait longer. In some cases much longer.

As a Canon and Nikon user, I've not only heard of delayed shipments and limited inventory with Nikon but have suffered through agonizingly long waits. The z9 launch took over a year to meet initial demand, and I received my 500mm PF prime lens more than a year after my initial order date. In addition, my wait for the Z400mm TC was several months even though I was an NPS member when I ordered (non-NPS members had much longer waits).

So, yes; supply problems and long delays to fill new product orders is a common camera-industry problem regardless of brand.

Announcement was delayed, it was supposed to be announced alongside the R1 development announcement. Anything more than that about it's development timeline, I don't know.

That's because you only look at one manufacture and glance at the other two, well the other two aren't any better.

A1 had supply shortages, Z9 and Z8 also had supply shortages. The new Z 400 2.8 was almost impossible to get for the first year. Sonys new 300 2.8? Good luck with that one. This is just to name a few

Again, this reason is why I tell everyone that might want a new product to pre-order on the day of the official announcement. If you want to buy multiple copies then place individual orders at multiple retailers; they will gladly take your money.

I know this is a global site, but in the US if you order from a large on-line retailer (e.g. B&H) you can cancel any preorder up to the ship date without any issue.

With that said, I understand people's frustration.

I\'m in the UK and pre-ordered two hours after the announcement, from WEX, one of the UK\'s major retailers. They can\'t tell me when I can expect the camera, though the batteries and the cooling grip are available.
I can\'t really figure out from this announcement how that affects my order. I\'ll get it when I get it. It\'s not like my R5 and R5C have stopped working!

As I recall, that same information included a statement that the delay was specifically to allow additional time to build up inventory and have ample cameras, available to meet demand. If my recollection is correct, then at least one part of that statement was incorrect.

Can\'t say how p***** I am. Every single store was promising delivery to Aug 20th so why advertise that? This is ridiculous, really.

I\'ve put my pre-order early Aug and haven\'t heard it back from the store.

Now I wonder - is this only for any *new orders*. or anything not fulfilled yet will need to wait for 6 months?

I ordered 2 weeks after the initial announcement and was told prior to the initial shipment I was 300 and something in the Q for pre-orders at WEX. I’m assuming that WEX are the UK retailer who CR was referring to getting enough stock for around 25% of preorders in batch 1.

I’ve since spoken to WEX staff in person at my local store last week and again this morning. Only update they were able to provide is next batch due sometime September - they weren’t able to provide further updates beyond that as to when in September, where I now sit in Q, numbers they expect to receive etc.

I've just switched from Nikon Z8 to R5MKII. Maybe Canon has some delays, but at least they deliver outstanding products. Nikon Z8: There was a huge hype initially, and then: Eye AF which worked only in 70% of cases. The lack of a mechanical curtain means banding when using HSS and two service repairs

That information is what I remember as well. Is it possible that the orders for the R5 Mk2 were significantly higher than anticipated and therefore the inventory was depleted faster than expected? Frankly, I would have expected Canon to be able to more accurately predict the demand for the R5 Mk2.

Well, now I dont feel so bad about having to get up at 3:00AM to make sure I got one in a reasonable amount of time. Got mine on the 21st and am very satisfied so far. Now, would anyone like to start the bidding at $10,000?

Yes, they obviously needed parts. Don't be pedantic.
