Remember the good old times when $100 used to buy a decent lens?
I seem to recall the Canon 50mm f/1.8 FL metal construction for around $39.95. The canon historical museum places the original cost at 14,800 yen which at the official exchange rate in 1964 of 360 yen to a US dollar comes out to $41.11 so my memory is not that far off.
And, the 55mm f/1.2 would have been almost exactly $100 with the 58mm f/1.2 coming in for a few dollars less.

And the S mount 50mm f/.95 cost a mere $158. Try to find one for that now.

With consideration of inflation, what would that be?

My mum went to Japan in 1967 and bought a Spotmatic with Takumar 55/2, 35/3.5, and 135/2.5.
When she got her K5, I googled and found some website that converted historic PPP prices, that spotmatic kit converted to about twice what the K5 cost (and it's lasted a good 50 years, too, money well spent)

That's a great deal for the very good optics of the shorty forty.
