The forum will be moving to a new domain in the near future (canonrumorsforum.com). I have turned off "read-only", but I will only leave the two forum nodes you see active for the time being.

I don't know at this time how quickly the change will happen, but that will move at a good pace I am sure.

FF UWA?

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you want *a* lens that is small and wide and FF, sure, go get the Voigtlander. But it's not exactly a shoot from the hip walkaround lens unless you enjoy f/8 range focusing.

Yeah, but in fairness once we hit the UWA f/4 territory we're not talking subject isolation here. No one buys a 16-35 to exclusively shoot at 35mm and f/4 to frame head shots. Far better tools.

And how many photographers really shoot that style??? I find some of the joy of taking a good wide angle shot is taking the time to plan it out, compose it, etc. And frankly for those few and far between (but literal) "shoot from the hip" type street photogs who are being stealthy, that's exactly what they do. They go to manual focus, set to f/8, hyperfocal distance, and just fire off shot after shot hoping "something sticks".

I'm not sticking up for the Voigtlander at all with that statement. I'm pointing out that its lack of AF may limit it to highly scripted, deliberate shooting, which may not support Cory's needs.

The Samyang 14mm 2.8 is a great value lens but I wouldn't say it's all that useful as a walk around UWA, it's more of a special use lens. Not many landscapes work well at 14mm. Interiors maybe (large interiors sure).

Personally, after I purchased the 16-35 f/4 my Samyang just collected dust. 16mm is wide enough for me and I had little use for the extra stop when compared to the usefulness of IS. As a walk about the 16-35 means less lens changes too. Pair it with a general purpose zoom or telephoto and you're good to go.

My two lens solution for most things is 16-35 f/4 & 70-200 f/4 IS which covers a lot of subject matter. I often just crop my 35mm shots to fill in the 50ish range.

On a separate note and I know the topic is FF UWA but just wanna throw it out there -

The EF-M 11-22mm lens totally rocks. You could have a two body solution with UWA on the M body and your general purpose on the 6D. Never miss a shot. I've tried this before and it works quite well. No lens changes, just keep shooting. Unless you shoot at night the IQ difference isn't that noticeable.

Yeah, I agree (And continuing a little OT). I think rocking a 2nd body is a great way to go. I remember my last trip to NYC I had the 70D but also brought along the M in the bag. I'm taking a trip to France in 2 weeks and I think my plan of attack will be to go with two little mirrorless bodies with 2 or 3 primes that compliment well. Just easier to pull out the "other" camera then be constantly changing lenses.
