I've been interested in this lens for a while. I'm curious what the AF performance is?

Is it true the only one that would AF on an RF body is the Canon EF model?

AF is flawless on the R5. This is great price for an amazing lens. I also like using it as a 45mm lens in crop mode on the R5. It has beautiful bokeh and saturated colors with no CA and has proven to be very versatile for me. I have definitely gotten my money's worth from this lens, and I paid a lot more than $539 for it.

Thanks for the detailed feedback! I also see it has virtually zero coma, which was horrible in my old EF35/1.4 MkI.

Thanks again, kind stranger. The $539 sale is back at Adorama and I just pulled the trigger.

It's the one lens I don't have an explicit purpose for.

14-35, 24-105, 100-500: three zooms, everyone needs them
50/1.8, 16/2.8: always have the camera in the backpack
100/2.8Mac: macro with my son
135/2: portrait
24/1.4: what is the use case? I dunno but sounds fun!

Adorama had the sale on again so finally pulled the trigger. About 1/3 cheaper even with sales tax and shipping than buying here in Japan. That's odd, as with the weak yen, most other lenses WITH tax and shipping are 5-10% cheaper at Bic in Tokyo, than they are at B&H in the US WITHOUT tax and shipping.

Anyway, just took literally one photo with it after opening the box but I think I'm going to like it. With the f/1.4, it conveys my little boy tuning out the familial din while he's studying. With the 24-105/4, or say a cell phone, the photo would be "this is what a slice of my dining room and kitchen look like when my family is in the shot."
