Least expensive Powershots

Will Canon abandon the sub 300 dollar market or will they continue to improve the least expensive cameras? I could see a smaller market for improved lower end devices. Maybe continuing the 1/1.7 sensor in camera variations like the G16 and others. To me it makes sense but then again I know the market would be much smaller The camera market is reverting back to making cameras just for the same people who have bought cameras in the 60s, 70s, 80's and 90s rather than the feeding frenzy in the middle digital era from about 2004 to 2014.

I don't think they will abandon it entirely, but they will start consolidating their lines a bit more. I think they have too many cheap powershots right now. It would make more sense to narrow the range of options down to 5 or 6 easily distinguishable models -- i.e. cheapo that takes AA batteries, long zoom, wifi/gps/nfc standard zoom, rugged/waterproof, etc. Next step up is the bridge cameras, the G series, the M series, or the Rebels.
