I was exceptionally pleased with that shot. The eagle shot overhead out of nowhere and was gone in a second over trees but I had just enough time to swing up the 5DIV with the 400mm DO II and fire off 2 or 3 shots, and I didn't see the snake until I downloaded later. If the 100-500mm on the R5 does as well, I'll be more than pleased.

Amazing shot, and a amazing lens. I've never had any "super tele" lens before, i've tried my EF 70-200 f/2.8 III with my 2x extender, but IQ was kind of crappy out of the box. It's un-compareble if you ask me. I'm curios about the RF 1.4 extender, but if there's the slightest loss of IQ i won't buy it.
Like the "macro ish" style of some shots with this lens. Like this one I took out in the park the other day.

I've done a thread that has some stuff about the RF 1.4x https://www.canonrumors.com/forum/t...s-ef-100-400mm-ii-vs-400mm-do-ii-on-r5.39813/ and John has a more detailed analysis https://www.canonrumors.com/forum/t...out-rf-1-4x-tc-for-super-telephoto-use.40240/
TBH, I blow hot and cold about the 1.4xTC. On some occasions, it gives me marginally better results when it resolves details that are just beyond the range of 500mm. It does degrade images but its a case of whether the extra resolution outweighs that in certain cases. I don't usually have it on my lens but I see on some forums there are those who use it all the time. Enjoy the lens and post some more bird photos!

Only his third time on a Merry-Go-Round. The second time was two minutes before this, and the first was four minutes before this.
:ROFLMAO:
Wonderful he had fun.
This serious lens also has a playful side!
I never thought of a lens being "serious".
And every time I get a dragonfly in flight with it, that is somehow a playful moment for me, too. :)

Judging by some of the trollish comments, there are people seem to think Canon's lenses are jokes and whatever other company they love (or possibly getting some kind of benefit for attempting to influence) makes serious lenses.
