The oddball Canon PowerShot V10 is apparently going to get a successor in Q4 of 2024. We have never used one, but if there’s going to be sequel, I guess Canon sees some potential. Rumoured features fir the PowerShot V10 Mark II include FullHD @ 120fps, enhanced mic over the original along with improved auto-focus

The mics are already pretty good.
My biggest problem is that they partially block the screen with the dead cats on.

I guess it is too small for a stabilized lens.
That would be preferred instead of just electronic stabilization.
Cropping in takes away from the advantage of the one inch sensor.

I keep looking at the V10 for my sister. She is a YouTube vLogger and has done remarkably well with an iPhone, content creator grip and software. I thought a V10 might take it to the next level for her. I'm interested to see what the mkII has to offer.

I don't believe every rumors from thenewcamera.com.
It seems they always make the rumors by themselves.
But if Canon really release mkii, I hope they use zf605 sensors. It is their own sensor with dual pixel sensor.

Or they can use this HDR sensor. It is small size.
The video posted 3 weeks again.

Or their small global shutter
It can use for drone, 120fps, and 2/3” sensor size.

I would choose HDR sensor for vlog camera.

Given the competition now available like the Dji Osmo Pocket 3 and Insta360 X4, the Canon V10 and its like cameras will seem like a hard sell at their current pricing. Its value proposition would be better perhaps if priced 1/3 lower so it drops below the $300 mark.

if these are really the only upgrades, I'll stick with the ones I have. For me to upgrade, they need to improve the battery life. That's the only true weakness IMO. It's not perfect in other areas but good enough that I don't think about it. But the battery life is always affecting me. It doesn't help that the cameras don't truly turn on. I can connect to them and transfer pics and videos even when they're off!

Should I buy the mark I now for an upcoming trip, from all the comparison videos I watched on youtube, the V10 blew all the others in term of natural color, dynamic range, and sharpness, very easy on the eyes, seeing the rumor for mkII really puts me on hold on the purchase.

it's all rumor. planning on a rumor is always perilous. If you want it for the trip, get it. If you don't really need it, wait. I personally have 2 V10!

Thank you, and do you use the smallrig case with the fluffy windshield for mics? Or any accessories at all?
I don't usually. Why I love the V10 so much is how fast you can start going. It's faster than a smartphone. You turn it on and it's almost instantly ready to go. Every button is uniquely shaped so you don't even have to look at the camera. Here's the situation I talked about before. Let's say you're on the freeway and you approach an accident. On a smartphone, you have to look at the screen. You have to tap buttons on the screen. In the time it takes to start recording video on a phone, you'll be driving by the accident. Or worse yet, you get into an accident yourself. Also, with today's phones, there's so little bezel that you have to be careful how you hold the phone. But the V10 is easy to hold, easy to start, and very fast to start.

There is one situation where I use my Rode Wireless II Go or Rode Wireless Pro with the V10. Plug in the mic and clip the receiver to the V10's stand.

The pocket 3 is one drop away from being useless. Reported by many. Drops happen so I wouldn't want something so delicate. Even phones are less finicky. The X4 looks great but it's hard to get normal footage. Even at least wide settings, it still looks a little distorted.

Yes, the Pocket 3 looks too delicate, it will take great deal of time to take care of it and waste valuable time shooting. The X4 I believe is for selfie folks, the removal of the selfie stick in the video looks weird to me, maybe because I don't like the wide angle face in the camera look. The V10 is way simple and looks normal to me.

And one more question, do you use any gimbal for the V10, incase I want to shoot stabilized shots.

I dabbled with a phone gimbal for it. It works but I rather use as little accessories as possible. I do try things like ninja walk and I'm more deliberate with movement of the camera. But I don't want to think too much when I use the V10. I want to capture the fun vibe. I usually use Warp Stabilizer in Adobe Premiere to smooth it out if it's too bad. The in-camera digital stabilization is fine if you don't mind the crop-in. There are 2 levels.

Here's a sample 4k video with only addition of music and cuts for editing. I didn't stabilize. I didn't try to change the color. It has poor low light office lighting (the camera was fully auto and did a pretty decent job of compensating). I told her to have fun:

Here's one with some R5 mixed in. The R5 was for the slow motion shots and certain situations where I had time to grab it. But most of it was V10 footage (anything hectic or impromptu). You even see speed walking with no stabilization turned on (so it is shaky but not so bad to be unusable in my opinion. I think footage should be somewhat shaky when you're moving fast. And at the end, you see the restaurant and this restaurant was very dark in real life and it did an admirable job recording (though I did use noise reduction in Adobe Premiere). The purists would probably say if it's really dark, leave it really dark but I wanted to show the food.
