Hello
Since we finally fixed premium memberships and the removal of ads, we're going to work on a tiered ad system that may bring some more discussion and participation on the forum.
Tier One - Guests
The most ads will be shown to this category of lurker on the forum and web site.
Tier Two - Registered Members
If you have a registered forum account the ads will be cut down by about 50% and you'll likely find them less intrusive. We'd also like that change to remove some ad blockers, but that's obviously your choice.
Ads are a necessary revenue stream. Hosting and storage aren't getting any cheaper and we actually want to build the photo posting on the site, but the plans for that will come in October. I love scrolling those threads and seeing the improvement in a lot of people's work over the months and years.
We'll tweak things if we need to based on any sort of feedback.
Tier Three - Premium Members
Premium members will never see display ads on the site or on the forum. We are never changing how this is set up and have a developer on retainer that will test things out with dev versions of updates. This will ensure any big core changes to Wordpress or Xenforo will be tested before any upgrade.
We'll also have some small added bonuses to premium members with discounts on certain brands that we actually use and endorse, as well as new product launch bonuses. We have the tech set up to be able to send personalized coupon codes to each member that requests one of the bonuses.
We'll start promoting this set up in the near future and we're looking forward to seeing the results.
We'll be offering yearly and lifetime memberships. We'd like to avoid becoming a subscription that just takes your money every month. We're also not going to hold on to PayPal yearly subscriptions. I know I forget about those all the time and get annoyed when I get hit for something I don't want anymore. Reminder emails can sometimes be missed in spam folders.
They won't be expensive and may pay for themselves with the bonuses down the road.
Thanks,
Canon Rumors Team
