• UPDATE

The forum will be moving to a new domain in the near future (canonrumorsforum.com). I have turned off "read-only", but I will only leave the two forum nodes you see active for the time being.

I don't know at this time how quickly the change will happen, but that will move at a good pace I am sure.

<p>I have finally purchased the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/850101-REG/Zeiss_1964831_Distagon_T_15mm_f_2_8.html/bi/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">Zeiss Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8</a> and will be putting it through paces on a two week trip to Namibia beginning on April 6. For filters, I’ll be using the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/909610-REG/Sigma_afj960_95mm_DG_Single_Coated_Circular.html/bi/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">Sigma 95mm DG Circular Polarizer</a>, as well as large <a href="http://singh-ray.com/grndgrads.html" target="_blank">Singh-Ray grads</a> when needed.</p>
<p>My immediate first impressions are quite good, amazing build quality, great zoom ring  and the silly test shots looks terrific. I’ll be shooting exclusively with the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/892349-REG/Canon_8035b002_EOS_6D_Digital_Camera.html/bi/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">EOS 6D</a> on this trip.</p>
<p>Justin has received the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/909812-REG/Sigma_137101_120_300mm_f_2_8_DG_OS.html/bi/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 DG OS</a> for review and he’ll be putting it through the paces with the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/827036-REG/Canon_5253B002_EOS_1D_X_EOS_Digital.html/bi/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">EOS-1D X</a>. He’s already shocked at the size and weight of the lens. No, it’s not a “hand holding” lens for most people. The first 2 negatives you can give the lens is the heavy and unnecessary metal lens hood and the equally enormous tripod foot. Third party accessory makers could surely knock a pound off the lens replacing both parts with lighter weight materials.</p>
<p>Optically and AF wise the lens is very good with initial test shots, Justin has the USB dock and will also put that through its paces.</p>
<p>Both reviews should be online some time in April, though I’ll be posting images from the Zeiss 15mm as the trip progresses.</p>

Re: Upcoming Lens Reviews of Sigma & Zeiss Glass

Last summer I pained over whether to purchase the Zeiss 15mm ( I do own the 21mm which is what was causing my drool factor over the 15mm!), or the Canon 17mm TSE and in the end I went with a great deal ($2089 inclds 4% Cash back at B&H) for a new "imported" 17mm. LOVE the lens and coupled with "very good" performance with my 1.4X III, I feel as though I purchased two TSE lenses for the price of one.
That was an extravagant lens purchase for me and I cannot justify owning both, (even thought there are some nice discounts now on the Zeiss if you order direct from Hong Kong).
I know the lenses are not truly directly comparable, but they were for me regarding my shooting needs and budget...
I have made some of my most treasured Images with my 17mm TSE..but.....
I look forward to seeing the review and images here from the Zeiss...I will try to keep the drooling to a minimum!
