The forum will be moving to a new domain in the near future (canonrumorsforum.com). I have turned off "read-only", but I will only leave the two forum nodes you see active for the time being.

I don't know at this time how quickly the change will happen, but that will move at a good pace I am sure.

Canon has two very good Macros the EF 100mm f2.8L IS USM and the EF 180mm f3.5L USM. Maybe they should create a zoom macro L lens between 100-180mm at f2.8 encompassing 135mm & 150mm to then create a very versatile lens both as a macro & a telephoto zoom.

Pretty certain both mechanically and optically they should be able to produce such a lens the glass types exist and mechanically its also possible its a question of is their enough of a market, what will it cost to develop and can they make it economically enough.

Macro lenses tend to be among the best because they are simple. A zoom macro is going to be complex and difficult to reach the quality of the primes.

With a Macro, its extremely easy to zoom by moving back a foot or so, so its not the same as when you are shooting something and standing on the edge of a canyon or river, and can't move closer (or further away). A zoom macro sounds nice, but is it really necessary?
