New iPhone camera remote from onOne software – Turn your iPhone into a remote control for your camera with the help of onOne software.
OnOne software have developed a new application called the DSLR Remote.

Designed to work with Canon EOS DSLRs, the new wireless cable release is designed to be triggered by an iPhone application. From your iPhone you can control settings such as the white balance as well as using it to fire the camera shutter. If you have a camera that supports Live View you can even get a live stream of the camera’s viewfinder on your iPhone.

The DSLR Remote application is available from the iTunes App Store at an introductory price of $9.99 (The application usually retails at $19.99.) A “Lite” version will also be available for $1.99 that only fires the shutter. The required server software that runs on your Mac or Windows computer will be a free download from the onOne website.

Visit onOne software for more details.

  1. Agreed! When I first read the post, I was excited, but the fact that you need a computer really kills it.

I think all the abilities are there, just the workflow needs to be addressed, so either make a custom iPhone cable that can connect directly to the camera (which should be cheaper than the Canon hand held trigger), or make a custom wireless dongle.

I do think that making an iPhone version should be visually better and a good idea, but that is a lot to undertake. I hope they go for it.

  2. In my mind, there are only 3 reasons to upgrade the 1D3…

    1. More MP…… to 16mp, matching Nikon at 12mp, won’t cut it. (I’m saying 16mp FF because it will have larger pixels for low-light and the through put of data is not so much that Canon can keep 10 FPS or more.
    2. Video….full manual control that everyone wants(for those who want video, those who don’t…different story).
    3. Final fix for AF.

If Canon does not increase to 16mp FF, when there really is no reason to have a 1D4, a 1D3 would work just fine.

And if Canon does not increase MP and also does not include full manual video, then again there is no reason to upgrade the 1D3.

AF….well if Canon goes to the 1D4, without the majority of 1D3 users very happy about the 1D3 AF, and the 1D4 has the AF that the 1D3 should have had, Canon well have a very mad pro user group.

  3. I use DSLR Remote, it is software developed and sold by Breeze. Sounds like a potential copyright issue to steal some other software’s name.

  4. Apple are working on 3.0 update on the iphone and it will enable developers to make/use cables that can be used for this sort of function. I wish i had the time, money and know how to make these things and would watch the cash roll in!

  5. Well you could always use a Windows Mobile PDA and connect to DSLR Remote Pro (from BreezeSystems) via RemoteDesktop and get the same functionality.
