Our favourite “Dude” and photography lover Jeff Bridges and his company SilverBridges are going to be reviving the unique and very cool Widelux panoramic camera.
The Widelux was manufactured from 1959 up until 2000 by Panon Camera Shoko in Tokyo. What made this camera was unique was the rotating lens that would rotate horizontally to capture panoramic images. The film gate was cylindrical to make this possible. There were 7 interations of the Widlux during its lifespan.
SilverBridges plans to ressurect the camera in 2025 and bring with it further refinement over the last camera from back in 2000. The new Widelux·x will remain a fully manual camera.
You check out Jeff Bridges at the 29th annual Infinity Awards in 2013 talking about his love for photography and specifically about the Widelux.
From SilverBridges

With modern durability and timeless charm, the WIDELUX•X is designed to last for generations, capturing stunning panoramic scenes for a new era of photographers.
