We've been inundated over the last couple of days with claims of an EOS 70D replacement on the near horizon. If such a camera is imminent, we imagine an announcement for CES in January 2016 would be appropriate.

For the moment, we don't put a lot of stock in the current stream of rumors published here [CR1] and elsewhere. The various “sources” appear to be the same person(s).

For the moment, we think the next DSLR from Canon will be the EOS-1D X Mark II, followed within 6 months by the EOS 5D Mark III replacement.

We haven't heard anything concrete from known sources about a new APS-C camera, both the EOS Rebel SL1 and EOS 70D are due for a replacement, but we haven't heard anything about an EOS Rebel SL2 in quite some time.

I will add that a known source has suggested that the EOS 7D Mark II will be the last of the “pro” APS-C cameras from Canon, take that for what its worth.

More to come…
