New Stuff in May?
Received an email today saying Canon will make some minor product announcements in the May/June timeframe.
By minor, I’d assume a PowerShot or 2 and the new remotes we were told about earlier in the week.
The only PowerShot I’ve heard anything about has been a replacement of the D10.
I think major announcements will be saved for closer to Photokina in September. There’s going to be some great stuff.

They better not kill the SX1 IS (in the “SX2 IS”) like they did in the replacement for the SX10 IS (the SX20 IS is worse than its predecessor for most things, except video).
I hope the D11 has a form factor that doesn’t look like the Fisher-Price camera I had as a little tyke…
Nikon have much better toy cameras. 12MP is all I need. The D11 AF is a joke!
Go to Hell.
THE Log!c up Grade Power Shot Is A new Canon PowerShot SX30 IS ( replase PowerShot SX20 IS 20X)
whit 24X or 30X zoon whit the new IS
New D10? What’s the details on this… While I understand why they went for the big chunky camera. I don’t think it worked..
If they have something to compete against the panasonic (i.e. 10m and smaller and decent photos) then I may wait…
A D10-2 would be perfect for my summer trip. Hope it gets a nicer look and HD vid
could that be the EVIL?
… or a S90 with HD?
… or a printer … ;-(
its true, nikon only makes plastic toys.
I want S90 + toughness/waterproof = D11
May- Powershot D11, rest not probable. SX20 just came out not long, rest of their lines have quite new cameras released just in the last 2 months.
August/September- 60D (2 years after 50D), 2000D (2 years after 1000D), 1Ds4 (3 years after 1Ds3). Maybe Powershot S100?
I WANT AN EVIL System …
… with full frame sensor and
… with EF-S compatibility (no mirror – no problems!)
… with large battery (e.g. as option)
… with reasonable small size
… with HD Video AND 848 x 480 video
… and with direct controls for ISO, Aperture, Exposure time
Whenever I compare images of compacts I see that 4 Megapixels are the maximum SENSOR resolution which makes sense – so APS-C is the minimum requirement for e.g. 10 Megapixels.
A compact APS-C with a pancake lens option (Canon, come on!) would be the right thing – and give me the freedom to choose existing lenses of my photo bag to extent the possibilities of photography.
all the D10 successor needs is:
HD video
faster lens
slimmer body
Yes, but the point is that Nikon makes MUCH BETTER plastic toys.
EVIL would be a major announcement. At least one camera, maybe two, and at least 2 different lenses.
If you keep the EF(-S) lens mount, then you must also keep the distance from the lens mount to the sensor – otherwise the existing EF(-S) lenses would not be compatible optically, i.e. they would not be able to focus onto the sensor. And if they are not compatible optically, better not make them compatible mechanically. That would only cause confusion and frustration.
In short, if you want to profit from a thinner form factor because you do not need the space for a mirror and pentaprism/mirror anymore, then it makes no sense to keep the EF(-S) lens mount.
If you want to use the existing lenses with EVIL, then use live-view on the existing cameras.
Also, if I remember correctly, so far all EVIL cameras have interchangeable lenses from one manufacturer to another. That is a really neat advantage of the system (for the user, anyways).
Remember that the 2nd week of May is the 10 year anniversary of in-house Canon DSLRs…
Nikon hell is much better than Canon hell. There is much less noise at high ISO.
Huh? You do know it’s optically superior to the competition almost all of whom resorted to the inferior folded optics to get the flatter body. And the D10 is water-resistant up to 10meters, most of the others are resistant only up to 3meters. It’s up to you, form over function…
D10 IQ also is the best among the rugged compacts according to DPR’s comprehensive review.
A better LX3/LX4 and Samsung TL500 competitor please. S90 is just underwhelming and too copycat.
Relatively large sensor, either 1/1.63″ or even APS-C, 10-12MP max, bright 3x zoom lens that starts at 20-24mm 35FF equivalent, max aperture of f/1.8-f/2.0 at the wide end and f/2.4-f/2.8 at the tele end… The usual 2010 feature-itis like 1080p/i Full HD video, Face/Blink/Smile/Pet/Alien/Ghost/Smoke Detection, usable ISO 1600-3200 at reduced resolution, 3.5″ 4:3 1+MP AMOLED LCD, full manual controls, high-speed FPS, etc.
But I’m not going to any Hell, and you’re going to Canon Hell. ISO 409,600 on a PowerShot.
Sod of back to nikon rumors
You’re forgetting about the Samsung NX10. Its lenses are not compatible with those of Olympus/Panasonic, nor vice versa (due to different lens mounts – Samsung uses the proprietary NX mount whereas Olympus and Panasonic use the Micro Four-Thirds lens mount).
A SX1 IS and SX20IS replacement, please. And on a unrelated note new MP- series all-inone printers.
So new lenses (ie. 24-7) are also not expected before september. What would general availability be (in Europe)?
Nikon would do it better.
12MP is all I need.
For me, a point&shoot compact camera is exactly that. Put it in the pocket. Point, Shoot, Done.
Yes, I do realise they went big and chunky for optical superiority… However, underwater the limitation IMO is going to be the water and how close you are to the subject and not necessarily the camera. So yes, form is better in this instance as I will never take the D10 with me. The new pano (the old one was not too bad compared to canon on DPR) is 10m too…
The D10 is a confused camera. Here’s hoping they upgrade its downfalls in the D11.
For the times I need optical prowess, I have SLRs for that… (just not something I want to take underwater or snowboarding)
A canon wouldn’t turn on, let alone be able to take a photos.
12MP is all I need.
The 5DII AF is a joke.
Never been to Nikon rumors. Why would I go there when 12MP is all I need and Nikon AF isn’t a joke (unlike the 5DII).
any news whether they have plans to do something with the 1000d dslr? (update/new model/)
How about an S90 upgrade with EVF?
Really?
Well, a chick with a Nikon wouldn’t turn me on, even au naturel.
As for Canon, I’ve almost got a fetish for the voluptuous curves of the camera bodies themselves.
