It looks like Canon is going to be busy with their line of Cinema lenses in 2021, with a couple of new lens sets.
First up, Canon will be replacing the current Compact CINE-ZOOM with a new set that covers both S35 and full-frame image sensors. These lenses will work in a similar way to the Angenieux EZ series of cinema lenses which allow you to change the rear group of elements for either S35 or full-frame sensors. These lenses will be available in both PL and EF mount.
Secondly, Canon will be releasing a CINE PRIME set for the RF mount.
A few people have asked about autofocus CINE lenses, but I don't know what the challenges would be to make such lenses. I haven't heard anything about autofocus coming to the CINE line.
The idea behind adding full frame compatibility to the compact cine-zooms is odd. The current 70-200 t/4.4 is already full frame. Maybe they will redesign them as something like a 70-200 t/4.4 full frame/ 50-140 t/3.1 S35 and a 24-105 t/4.4 full frame 18-80 t/3.1 S35.
My personal guess is, that they will go for AF lenses. I think it changes the industry and canon will lead this change. The C200 and C70 with DPAF is in my opinion the first step that shows their commitment to Autofocus systems.
But time will tell =)
I"d like one to shoot stills with too...I just like the look and aspect ratio.
I don't understand why so few and so $$$$$ options out there for FF anamorphic lenses.
