  1. I am not understanding how Canon can add Eye Autofocus to the C70 and not the C300 III and C500 II. It makes no sense at all. The C300 III is the more expensive version of the C70, and now it has less features. How does that make sense?
  2. Installed this on the C70. The autofocus is a big improvement. It’s almost as good as the R5. It’s an amazing update indeed. And the Canon 709 profile looks great. You can use it SOOC and the colors and image is fantastic. The camera has been so improved over the years with the firmware upgrades. Nice job Canon

    It doesn’t.

Most likely because they are replacing those two next year, but intend to keep the c70 in the lineup a long time. C70 sells really well.

Maybe nobody asked for it. Rarely do I see comments about what the C500 lacks. You don't ask or complain, you may not get. Canon responds to customer support request. Often within 48 hours.

Part of the reason the C70 still sells so well is all of the firmware updates.
Canon is going to need to either add features or drop the price of the current lineup.
The C300 III and C500 II seem far too expensive for what they offer now.
Of course, existing owners would rather see firmware updates.

As crazy as that sounds that is a real possibility.
More C70 owners complained about the autofocus because they compared it to mirrorless.
I am not sure that C300 III and C500 II owners even expected the R5 C autofocus to even be possible on Digic 8.
Now that the C70 proves that is possible I can imagine Canon getting a deluge of requests.

Like, we should see a new C300 MK 4 and a c500 MK 3 at nab next August if the rumors are true. They are behind schedule on those due to pandemic shortages. Canon typically only spends time and effort updating products that they intend to keep in their line up a while. Major updates anyway.

Canon releases updates for cameras all the time. They do not abandon cameras until they are done with that model. C500 is not 'done'. I think the real reasons for the 500/300 not having this auto focus feature is because: a) Canon believes these cameras are used professionally with a crew where a focus puller does the focus and b) People use cine lenses on these cameras which will not autofocus. Anyways, I wish the bigger cameras get the autofocus for those who want it.
  11. I wait for the eye focus update on R5C. I was contemplating selling my C but will wait now as except for the eye focus bugs, the C is a super camera.
Are you saying the r5c is superior to the c70? In what way?

I read my comment twice. I cant see where I said that....
Oh, perhaps I was not clear: "I wait for the eye focus update on R5C. I was contemplating selling my R5C but will wait now as except for the eye focus bugs, the R5C is a super camera." THAT was the intention.

I can see this logic working for the C500 II, which was designed for true cinema work with anamorphic capabilities, but the C300 III has always been the darling of the Doc world. Documentary productions, which usually have lower budgets and less crew, can use all the help they can get when it comes to focusing. The C300 III should at least have the same features of the C70.

It makes no sense to you because you are not an owner of the C70. Eye autofocus is not an option that has ever been requested or even mentioned by C300 or C500 owners whom most often will deny ever using autofocus on those cameras as a primary option.
