Canon has continued its recent trend of delivering premium lenses at premium prices with its new “L” lenses. The high point of entry for the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM will be discouraging to many prospective buyers who will content themselves with the almost as good Sigma 35 ART, Canon 35 IS, or the Tamron 35 VC. The 35L II is a cut above, however, and sets the new standard for excellence in the 35mm focal length. It is razor sharp, has exceptional autofocus performance in both speed and accuracy (something the Sigma can't claim), and delivers beautiful, professional looking results.
