When I had my photography studio, I got a lot of Neewer stuff. I found them to be pretty good and excellent bang for the buck. There are a lot of things that you get for a studio that you don’t use all the time, but it’s darn handy when you have it as an option. Through the years the gear has gotten easier to use, and also quicker to set and tear down, something I’m quite jealous about.  For a limited time you can save quite a bit on Newer’s gear at Amazon and here are some of my picks.
Now we could look at the higher end gear for the studio where a softbox will set us back around $500 and more, but I’m writing this article up for those just starting out – we all need something to start with.
Just in case you are unfamiliar, you should always try to get studio monolights with a Bowens-compatible mount, because it opens up the widest possible accessory options. All the accessories here that attach to the moonlight are bowens compatible.

This is a medium sized octoganal softbox compatabile with the Bowens mount. It features a silver reflective inner surface and comes with 2 diffusers to allow you to tailor the light to your needs.
This is extremely useful for any type of studio photography to soften the mono light by spreading the light over a much larger area than the monolight itself. This is something almost like camera bags, where you simply can’t get enough of them.

Neewer 60 cm Octagonal Softbox and Beauty Dish
Beauty Dishes work differently than a regular softbox, as they tend to skulpt the light around a subject’s face given it a more dramatic look, whereas a softbox tends to smoothen out the light creating a more flattering look.
This combination softbox and beauty dish allows you to experiment with doing both at the same time.
For the price, it’s a great way to get into this type of diffusion to see if it matches your creative vision.

Beauty dishes are known for producing flattering light on faces. The light wraps around the subject’s features, highlighting their structure and creating a well-defined catchlight (reflection) in the eyes.
Silver dishes like this one offer a more dramatic look with stronger shadows. Additionally, you can add diffusers or grids to further control the light quality.

This is a mono light that can also double as a Speedlite for your camera. it supports the TTL protocol so you can let the camera determine the power necessary.
400W/S is a very capable light source, especially for smaller rooms and studios. Just remember the more diffusion you add, the less light you have to work with and this is especially important to smaller monolights.
