In news that surprises no one, Canon is now warning of a shortage of the new Canon RF 35mm f/1.4L VCM and the older Canon Speedlite EL-1.

I'm a little surprised by the Speedlite EL-1 but maybe Canon is surprised that someone bought one, and didn't have any on hand. That being said the release of the Speedlite EL-10 may have increased sales of the Speedlite EL-1. I could see where people might purchase one or 2 higher-powered Speedlite EL-1 flashes and fill in the rest with the cheaper Speedlite EL-10.

I would strongly recommend getting on preorder lists for the Canon RF 35mm f/1.4L VCM if you haven't already;

  1. That's one hell of an Expectations Officer they have at Canon.
    Yeah, I do hope it's because they can't produce more, unlike like Fuji, who went on record last month saying that they could make more, but don't want to.

    I'm in awe at how bad Fuji botched the X100VI. At least there's no shortage for my Instax film fun.

  3. I think Canon should include the shortage notice into every product announcement press release from now on.
    and put a mention of it in their quarterly statements as a process improvement.

    I doubt Canon will post a shortage message of their new RF-S dual fisheye VR lens.

  5. Angry at Canon for being part of the reality that the world's finely tuned but fragile network of supply chains is not working as well as it did ten years ago. Or even five years ago.
