Simmod announce global network of approved lens modding specialists

Windsor, Ontario, 27 March 2023: Simmod Lens are today announcing a new global network of approved lens modding specialists who are qualified to install Simmod’s extensive range of replacement mounts, gears and rings.

The network has been established to offer users the option of full service Simmod conversions for their lenses. From today, users can contact Duclos lenses in Los Angeles, Du-All Camera in New Jersey, Optical Support in the UK, Paris Optical Centre in France, Areia Media in Greece, UAE Vintage Photo in United Arab Emirates, and STC Lenses in Australia for their Simmod lens conversion needs.

To ensure the best possible service, each of these specialist companies has the ability to order parts directly, and benefits from a direct exchange of knowledge and ideas with Simmod. As well as conversions, they also offer lens cleaning and servicing to keep valuable lenses in optimal condition. Each of them offers their own business terms and users should contact them directly for pricing and turnaround times.

Simmod Lenses discontinued their own Simmodding service earlier in the year to allow the company to focus exclusively on manufacturing and new product development in the DIY modding and lens accessory markets. The ethos of Simmod has always been one of enabling users with the knowledge and confidence to modify lenses on their own. All Simmod conversion parts are designed to be as simple as possible to install, and there are many instructional videos to guide the user through the process. However, Simmod recognize that DIY lens modding is not for all customers and so the network has been established to perform conversion work at the standards expected by Simmod.

What is a Simmod Lens conversion?

A full Simmod Lens conversion kit features a lens mount that replaces the existing one with a durable precision made brass mount. Popular vintage lenses for Simmod conversion are Leica R, Canon FD, Olympus OM, Nikon F, M42 and Mamiyas. A SIMple Fit follow focus gear, front cine ring with the 80 or 85mm outside diameter, plus a cine lens cap are then fitted.

The results feel great and are much more ready and usable for professional production. In the case of FD lenses users can also fit a re-engineered Edmika Dampened Controlled Gear (DCG) aperture ring for a more precise de-clicked iris control.
