The Canon USA Store has stock of a few hard-to-find super telephoto Canon RF mount lenses. Act quickly if you're in the market, stock levels are still low.

My Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM arrived this week and it's pretty dang impressive. I'm looking forward to using it on the Canon EOS R3 to see if the extra power to the lens really does improve AF performance.

    Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM $11,999 | Canon RF 600mm f/4L IS USM $12,999

If the Big White Lenses are beyond what you want to spend on a super telephoto lens, the very good Canon RF 600mm f/11 IS STM and Canon RF 800mm f/11 IS STM are both in stock as well.

    Canon RF 600mm f/11 IS STM $699 | Canon RF 800mm f/11 IS STM $899

The RF 400 mm f2.8 is an amazing lens. I got mine a few months back during the initial release. A very versatile lens for large wildlife and low-light photography. With TCs I get three lenses in one: 400 mm, 560 mm, and 800 mm. The 600 mm is a bit too much, but I hope a 500 mm f4 that is less mass is released in 2022.

Does the RF400/2.8 take an RF extender? from reading about the RF extenders, it seem that only the 600/11, 800/11 and the 100-500 (from 300+) were compatible. No word of the 400/2.8 and 600/4

Yes, the RF 400/2.8 and 600/4 take the RF extenders.

      As a general rule all big whites (300 mm f2.8, 400 mm f2.8, 500 f4, 600 mm f4, and 800 mm f5.6) can use 1.4x and 2x teleconverter.

All I know is my RF 100-500 ordered through B&H has been delayed 2x, missed the 2nd date on 11/4, and now they can't even estimate when it's getting to them. Super frustrating.

After many months, I gave up on obtaining the 100-500, pre-ordered the RF 100-400 and have it in hand now. It works well, especially at the price and weight. When the 100-500 is generally available someday, and maybe with a rebate, I may try to buy it again. By the, though, there might be something better.

Too bad Canon offers such limited options when compared to Sony. Either $12k for a massive heavy lens, or $699 for an unusably slow lens. The new 100-500 is unusably slow too.

Meanwhile Sony has a 200-600 f/6.3 for $2k, which is the perfect combo of speed, reach, and price.

Canon is WAY out of touch with the market.

The RF 100-500 is in stock at Best Buy. Order it there, then cancel your B&H order.

Canon holds ~50% of the ILC market, and last year they gained more market share than Sony.

You are WAY out of touch with reality.

On the recommended accessories section, Lens Hood ET-155 $1100. Who would pay that much for a lens hood? Has anybody on here paid that much? If the original breaks just get a cheap one from ebay haha.

That's the whole market. It says nothing about whether Canon leads Sony in the long telephoto zooms or not.

As much as I have appriciated and learned from your knowledge on cameras and lenses over the years, I continue to find that Your Arrogance Outweights Your Knowledge, and that's my main beef with you neuro,

The statement was ‘the market’. It’s clear that Canon has a thorough understanding of the market. If you choose to interpret the statement as ‘Canon is way out of touch with the market for telephoto zooms’, then consider that on Amazon right now, the Canon 100-500 is the #24 seller in SLR Camera Lenses, and the Sony 200-600 is #108 on that list. While I acknowledge that Amazon.com is not necessarily representative of other retailers or other countries, the fact that the RF 100-500 is substantially outselling the FE 200-600 at a major US retailer refutes the statement that Canon is out of touch with even the small segment of the market comprising long telephoto zooms.

It is evident from this and other posts that @rontele7 is a foolish troll. An f/6.3 lens is ’perfect’, but an f/7.1 lens at 1/3-stop narrower is unusably slow. That’s an opinion you believe is worth defending? To the point of insulting me?

That’s your prerogative, of course. Keep in mind that when you defend bullish!t, you usually end up smelling like it.

If you think that the 600 f11 lens or 800mm f11 lens (which I own and find excellent as a featherweight long distance only lens) is unusably slow, and that the RF 100-500 f4.5-7.1L lens (which I own and find to be absolutely superb!) is unusably slow, and that the Sony 200-600 is the perfect combo for you, then I suggest that you would probably be better suited with Sony products and their user websites.

It's worse than that - describing f/8 and f/7.1 as unusably slow is as dopey a remark as I have ever seen here.

A 600/4 with a 2x TC is unusably slow, pity those fools who spend >$13K on that.

      Just like the perfect 200-600mm f/6.3 with a 1.4xTC.

I ordered my RF600 f/4L IS last month from a local shop when I sold some no longer needed gear and it was a tax free sale(~$1200). Canon reps were there and said it should be here either this week or next. Was really holding out for a 600 w/1.4x so Canon should release one now. Shaving some weight off the II, one less connection point, and perhaps most important was the statement that the R3(and presumably the 'R1') will be able to drive the AF motors faster.
