I received a straight to the point email. It stated we can expect an announcement from Canon on Tuesday, June 30, 2009.
What will be announced?
Not what you want!
T1/2000D should be making its way into the mainstream.
No spec list was sent, I expect one soon.

It’s next week!
hmm.. so i wonder what kind of specs we’re talking..
T1 is the T1i minus video?
and the 2000D is a 1000D with a 450D sensor?
not a lot of buzz about them what ever they are.
Just gimme that 60D already =)
“What will be announced?
Not what you want!”
LOL
Don’t let Canon give us what we don’t want. Start a petition, sell all your Canon gear and buy Nikons!
kiddin’
psss, announcement will be next friday, time to change CR2 sources, i think…
Expect a rebranded XSi, at least this has been the practice in the past.
Or perhaps the 2000D is the European name for the same camera as the T1? Replacing the XS/1000D?
Is an updated 50mm 1.4 II with “real” USM too much to ask?
I am waiting for exactly that lens… and I am so close on pulling the trigger on a Sigma 50 1.4 (with all its purported problems). I guess I should do all of us a favor and buy the Sigma now — then Canon will definitely release a new 50 on friday. ;-)
Too bad that there are mostly rumors about new bodies (although I like the way the 60D is taking shape…) and so little reports about new lenses.
Nothing about a new moderate-priced 50, a new 24-70 with IS, a new 100-400 etc.?
I guess it will have 15 megapixels….
Don’t you see?! This is like when they released the 50D (with little fanfare) a bit before the 5Dmkii last year.
They’re getting the boring releases out of the way in time for some BIG stuff!!
1D4, 24-70 2.8 IS, 70-200 2.8L IS II, 100-400 II etc. etc. (maybe even a 60D ;-) ).
que sera, sera

Doesnt sound that exciting to me! I want to hear more about the 60D. ;o)
Steven.
Oh man, you’re not a canon fan…
it has begun
what has begun?
It. :)
that is the 500D in Europe
from curiosity… Admin – how many CR3 sources do you actually have :P ?
SAME, ugh!
please don’t start that on CR. It’s one of the things I hate when I read NR.
New 70-200 2.8? I don´t think so. The current is a top lens. No need for replacement.
Have no idea what this thread means but I’ll take your words as meaning I don’t even want to know ;)
MORE LENSES LESS CAMERAS!
No, the 500D is the T1i. At present there is no model called T1 without the i.
And you say that because…?
think the only really, truly reliable source is Canon itself.
>> “24-70 2.8 IS”
OK, stop it, now you’re just toying with us… LOL!
True, they don’t need a replacement. However have you seen what the f/4 can do in terms of color and sharpness, (its several years newer in design), If they remade the 2.8 with the optical advances of the f/4 they could solidly beat every other 70-200 f/2.8.
one of the comments of every nikon rumors posts is ‘it has begun’ it is a joke, but it grows tiring
I hope the announcement is for the new 1D cameras!
I think its great – bit of humour to compensate for all the ‘I-need-a new-dslr-now’ guys. ;]
heh never heard of N,C giving tips to rumor sites. unless they do it to do some marketing research (which would be a terrible idea IMO).
what kind of lenses are you still missing in Canon?
so it clearly has not begun then…sorry couldn’t help it
EF-S Lenses…? could use a 28mm prime, a 28mm macro, and a 24mm pancake! Zooms annoy me.
@ rwpl
I was thinking more refreshes of a few of the older zooms. a wider zoom. like nikon 14-24, a 200-400, also a nikon idea, and something similar to the sigma 120-300 f/2.8. I would also expect to see refreshes of the entire macro line, adding IS to them as well as optical improvements. I also expect refresh of the 45mm and 90mm TS-E lenses, and the 35mm f/1.4. I would like a fisheye with USM motor and weather sealing (presumably L-series). The entire super tele line-up is do for refresh soon. they’re 10 years old now. They don’t really need it from an optical standpoint, but they could be made somewhat smaller and lighter with current technolgy, and the IS would be much improved.
Personally I would like to see something similar to the leica tri-elmar lenses, where rather than being a zoom it contains three distinct focal lengths. This would be ideal if they could practically exceed a 2.8 aperture for them. think about a 50 f/1.4, a 85mm f/1.8, and a 100 f/2 in a single package.
@ fred. 28mm macro? why bother with a macro at such a wide focal length, you get no working distance if you’re close enough to have any kind of magnification. also 28mm prime exists, could use refreshes though. there are f/2.8 cheap and f/1.8 with USM versions.
also what is the advantage of pancake lenses? legit question, I honestly don’t get how having a tiny lens is good, small I understand, Tiny doesn’t make sense to me.
What about the new 35mm 1.8 USM? A possibility for next week?
That’s what I’m talkin’ about!!
:-)
So? No announcement?
true, I must give you that, though those people are *slightly* less prevalent on CR than NR
It is too late for availability during summer vacations anyway, so maybe Canon decided to delay the announcement to learn more about Nikon D3000 specs and price.
may I ask? why are you so fond of bathroom
