A tidbit of info
Canon is looking to expand their entry level line of cameras. Nikon has grabbed a lot of market share with theirs, as has Sony.
Some features being considered:
Articulating LCD on one model
Movie Mode with AF
A far more consumer friendly liveview mode.
Inbody IS does exist in Canon R&D labs
There is little chance of adding a 3rd Rebel, but they will continue to develop 2 different models

In-body IS. If they put in-body IS in a Rebel, it would do serious damage to their XXD line. They’d have to put in-body IS in all their cameras if they did that. Awesome.
Per Otto’s comment – I am ALL for a compact digital rangefinder using the EOS EF and EF-S mount. But, it should use BOTH those mounts. I would buy that in a heartbeat.
If the rebel had moviemode with autofocus I would buy that.
any one at canon listening?
Canon has been adding in Lens IS to even many consumer lenses every time a new one comes out.

I doubt if they will go to in body IS in their DSLR line. There are likely several reasons for this.
1. They hold a ton of patents for in-lens IS that gives them a advantage. They might have to pay Sony royalties for patents on in-body IS, its a risk.
2. In Body IS does not work as good on longer telephoto lenses where its needed most. It is nice for normal focal lengths.
3. Canon IS lenses generally don’t sell for any more than Sony’s Non-IS lenses.
I hope they go back to CF cards rather than SD, but everything else sounds nice.
