I was just told that Canon will be announcing two new cameras this week in new segments for the company. I haven’t heard a peep about what these two cameras may be.
I also don’t know offhand what new segments Canon could be entering.
I have reached out to others to see if they have heard anything.
Update: It looks like the two cameras have internal model numbers starting with “DSC”, which is usually reserved for PowerShot and EOS M.
Update #2: I have been told that Canon will announce new PTZ cameras that will cost around $4000 USD. This isn’t a new segment for them though, but their current offerings are $10,000 USD and up.

It’s no secret that Canon is going to announce a slew of RF mount super-telephoto lenses later in 2021. Which ones will come first remains a mystery, but I’m quite happy to report that Canon has finally patented an RF 200mm f/2L IS USM optical formula, a lens I would be over the moon about when it gets officially announced.
I haven’t yet seen an optical formula for the rumored RF 1200mm f/8L IS USM, but I still remain confident that we will see that lens at some point over the next year or two.
Canon News has a good breakdown of the backfocus distances when it comes down to super-telephoto lenses, and it definitely looks like the patented RF 200mm f/2L IS USM is the real deal.

The RF mount is obviously missing macro offerings, but I expect that to change in 2021. Here we have an interesting patent for a macro optical formula uncovered by Canon News.
An RF 100mm f/2 IS STM would definitely be a welcomed and cost conscience lens for RF mount shooters. If this does become a consumer product, it’ll be very interesting to see what they do with an RF L Macro.

There have been a few rumors since the launch of the EOS R that a Cinema EOS model would be coming to the mirrorless lineup. I haven’t heard anything about such a camera for more than a year. That has changed this week, as it looks like we will see an “EOS R5c” in early 2022. I’m just calling it the R5C to keep things easy.
I have been told that the camera will have a slightly different body design than the EOS R5, likely to combat heat and some ergonomic changes.
The only other information the source knew is that it will definitely have internal ND’s, Canon Log 2 and 3. The source wasn’t sure which image sensor was going to be featured in the camera, so I don’t know whether it’s a 4K or 8K camera.

Well, here we have the first specifications for the Canon EOS R1 (the flagship RF mount camera). Things are slow at the moment, so why the heck not?
There are a few things on this specifications list that scream nonsense, but I’ll let you decide for yourself.
If this had shown up in my inbox, I would not have published it. However it was posted elsewhere, so here we are.

I have been told a couple of times now that Canon is working on a new menu system for upcoming cameras. I don’t know how far along in development Canon is, but I would think the EOS R1 would be a good place to introduce something new.
One of the sources claims that you will be able to select the “Canon Classic” menu system or the new menu system on your camera. This makes a lot of sense, lots of people love familiarity, especially on professional bodies, but new users to the system would probably be inclined to learn the new menu system.
Canon has always had a great menu system, but I think it has started feeling cumbersome on the EOS R5, as the breadth and depth of options continue to grow.
Before you ask, I doubt we would see a firmware update to give cameras like the EOS R5 or EOS R6 the new menu system.

The first half of 2021 is not going to be an exciting time for Canon shooters. The company continues to work on getting over the supply chain and manufacturing issues, something that is apparently going to be resolved by late March.
A source with a stellar track record has told me that Canon will announce more lenses at once than ever before. The lenses will have different shipping dates, but Canon is going to make a “massive splash with a new camera and many many lenses”.
I have posted the known RF lens roadmap a couple of times, and you can check it out here. Keep in mind that the list may not be complete.
One lens not on the roadmap is a dedicated RF mount macro lens, I have been told numerous times that we’ll see one this year, but I don’t yet know the focal length or speed.
There will be a lot more information on this topic in the coming weeks, I can’t say why, but things should start to come into focus.

I have been told that Canon still has plans to release a slew of new video products in 2021. These cameras sell in lower numbers than consumer cameras, so production may not suffer from the same volume issues in the supply chain.
New specifications for the cameras below have been hard to come by, as most of these cameras have had their launch delayed. There may not be the usual rumor cycle this year.
Canon XF505
Canon XC20
Canon Cinema EOS C50
These specifications have been around for a long time, and with the delay in announcement, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some tweaks to the specifications.
Canon Cinema EOS 8K
A new 8K Cinema EOS camera is the worst kept secret, but its launch date is still up in the air. The NAB Show 2021 begins on October 9, 2021, and I expect that Canon is going to have a massive presence at that show.
There has been nothing new about the rumoured Cinema EOS C90 and Cinema EOS C200 Mark II.
