EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon 5Dc as an entry for FF? yay or nay?

Once you get over the hurdle of finding one in good condition, the camera really is pretty wonderful.  I bought one a couple of years ago when I wanted to make the leap to full frame and I was shocked at how much I favored it over my 7d for beautiful, low noise images.  In this day and age it's a pretty stripped down camera but it simply produces great photos.  I still regret having to sell it this past summer (for a brief and shining moment I had a 5Dc, 5D2, and a 5D3).  If you are looking for something that is a great photographic tool at that price point, in my opinion, nothing compares.

Definitely go with the 85mm 1.8.  I shoot headshots for a living and I love the 85mm 1.2L (and I mean LOVE) and the 135mm 2L, but with your restrictions I think the 85mm 1.8 is definitely your best bet.  A great prime for the price and I personally think the results are significantly better (for portraits) than the 50mm 1.4.

Lenses / Re: General purpose L lens? 24-70mm 2.8 vs 35mm 1.4

I just sold my 24-70 because it was so noticeably inferior to my 35mm 1.4 that I found I was never shooting with it.  I love the 35 on my 5d as much as I loved it on my 7d when I first got the two.  It is a great 'normal' lens for a 7d and while it is not as versatile as the 24-70, the photos are significantly better (sharper/color/contrast) with the 35.
