My first DSLR is nikon d3000 at my age of 19, i purposely bought the cheapest model to test whether i have any interests in photography. in between i have some newbie lens also eg, 35mm f1.8, 18-200mm and 55-200mm. after 2 years of doing photography , i found that i have passion in photography so i decided jump to FF. that time i only have 2 choice, 5dm2 or d700.. finally i choose canon cause,
1) 5dm2 have video capability d700 no.
2) 85mm f1.2L II
3) 24-70 2.8L is cheaper than nikon version (in my country)
4) 50mm f1.4 is cheaper than nikon version (in my country)
5) 17-40mm L cheaper than 16-35 f4 nikon version..
6) For Asian skin tone, i really like what the 5dm2 produced . in d700, our Asian yellowish skin tone look even worst.

5D MK III Sample Images / Re: Ultra long daytime exposures - 5D mkiii
« on: December 03, 2012, 05:09:29 AM »
Another new one from the other day.  I bracketed this image before the long exposure, but the DR was so good on the single long exposure that I didn't even need/want to use any of the brackets for the final image.  This is just a converted RAW, pretty much straight from camera...

Canon General / Re: Travel to Thailand/Laos should I bring my 5d mkiii?

HI, i have been thailand once, the people there were friendly.. i agree that alot people trying to scam  and sell you something at higher price. avoid using taxi as they charge you very high compared to non tourist. there is less theft case.. i feel thailand is safer compared to Italy that i have been there last year.

Best value of L lens, it 80% on my 5dmarkii .. the lens is sharp after f5.6,i like its lightweight, very good for landscape photographer as you need to climb the hill for several miles.  Here my sample shot from the lens last week have a trip to Malaysia rainforest..

Great photos! Did you use filters on those?

yes, i used Hoya HD CPL to reduce water reflection and get extra one stop slow. also the filter make the lens to achieve full weather seal. all 3 shots make my camera like having a bath, it is totally wet.

For landscape photographer, i don't think they need 40mp, but really need great dynamic range.

i have the canon 50mm f1.4.. i must say that i regret of buying it.. it is not sharp from f1.4 to f1.8... from f1.8 or slower, the result is sharp...

the best lens i ever own.. however, sometime i quite worry as the lens do  extend... any accidentally knocking may damage the focusing motor..

EOS Bodies / Re: Why I'm not jumping to Nikon
« on: September 21, 2012, 06:08:17 AM »
I am the one that jump from nikon to 5dm2 2 years ago..  the main reason i choose canon :

1) nikon dslr tend capture more yellowish colour photo.. i know it can be fixed in raw,but from my experience it is easy to fix if you shoot scenery, but not for potrait. , i am an asian and mostly i shot asian people potrait too, we asian tend to have a brown-yellowish skin and nikon camera will make it worst..

2) because of L lens..

EOS Bodies / Re: Pre digital days, please shed some light for me
« on: September 07, 2012, 05:14:42 PM »
Hi, i am newbie here.. i just 21 years old i think i used film when i was 13years old.. but digital surely nicer to be used... as long as the camera shooting raw, definitely can get nice picture..  here are some example of benefit especially photoshot.
The first one shoot with raw with 5dm2.. there are still plenty of dynamic range eventhough the model face is underexposed. i think that nowadays sensor keep updating is to trying to improve a better DR..

Lenses / Re: 85mm f/1.2 ii or 135mm f/2
« on: September 01, 2012, 09:14:52 AM »
i have the 85mm f1.2ii instead of 135mm. i like to shoot portrait with half or full body. hence, 135mm is too narrow for me. the first time i test shot at the shop was really amazed with the bokeh and sharpness at f1.2.

here are some sample shot

Lenses / Re: All street photographers share your gear here!

Hi, i not a street photographer but more to portrait and landscape.
my lens are
canon 24-70mm 2.8L
canon 17-40mm 2.8L
canon 85mm f1.2L ii
canon 50mm f1.4 (just like yours).

form my personal opinion, the 50mm f1.4 is not a sharp lens. especially on wide open f1.4. it has sharp result only at f1.8 or smaller aperture. however, the price u pay for L lens might high, but u will get what u paid. for example, the 85mm L ii is incredible sharp even though at wide open f1.2.  the 24-70mm also very sharp at wide open f2.8.
