RRS stuff is simply awesome!

Hey cszy67,
I was in your same shoes as I did this a year ago.  And, I’m doing it again in a month.  In both of my situations, the couples are very much of the understanding that I am not a wedding photographer and simply are asking for a favor.  These are very small weddings/small gatherings, and simply do not have the funds for a wedding photographer.  If I’m not there, then nobody will be there type situation.  The next one I am doing will be shooting with a relative, and I think we will be just fine.  I think it is very important that the bride and groom understand your background/abilities upfront.  Many times, nice looking camera equipment is thought to equate to nice looking photos.  As we all know,..it does not,…it takes skill and experience.  I absolutely make sure they clearly understand that.  I would take home all the good advice on this forum,…..great stuff and advice.  More importantly though, have fun!

I love Nik plug ins,...but I have to say that now that google has it, Nik support is terrible.  No updates, no customer log-in, I am now locked out of Sharpener this week and product codes do not work! Awful !

Jimmy!, I just went to FF after a couple nice crop bodies.  It was also a lot of funds for me...lost a bit of sleep and had some buyers remorse,...until I looked at some of its images.  There is just something about a FF image!  I have no regrets,..have fun!

Lenses / Lens Help..EF 28mm f1.8 any good?
« on: January 29, 2013, 01:03:57 PM »
Hello,…always looking for people’s opinions, especially when it comes to buying new gear.
For a long time I have had an itch to pick up a Canon 24mm f1.4L II for my FF, but it is a pricey one.  I would like to do some static star shots and trails also, as well as have a nice fast wide prime for indoor and landscape.  Until the funds materialize, does anyone have any positive experiences with the 28mm f1.8?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 7D to 5D Mk III - Pull the trigger?
« on: January 26, 2013, 08:27:32 AM »
I have been shooting with the 7D since late 2010. In October 2012 I bought the 5D MK III.
I will sell my 7D but......buy (if specs are ok for me) the 7D MK II. Why? I need the 8fps and crop 1.6 for sports and BIF. I do not have the budget for long focal length primes. So shooting sports with my 5D MK III and my 70-200 f/2.8 MK II does not give me enough great close-up shots.

But buying a 5D MK III was one of my best purchases. I love this camera for; build quality, quality IQ, ISO, AF and silent shutter

For me (with a relatively tight budget), the combo 7D and 5D MK III is the best
Agreed! +1
+1!

I always think the Canon 50mm 1.4 is a great lens in your bag, and one to do a lot of photographic exercises and one to learn from.  But,.. I have to agree with Neuro with 24-105mm f4L.  I have one and use it quite a lot on my FF,..very versatile and great all around lens.

The 7D is a very nice camera that will serve you well.  I have had mine for about 2.5 years and have enjoyed it.  I have however, on several occasions been very annoyed by its noise and banding (especially with some landscape shots) at ISO 100.  Now,..I am an enthusiast and an amateur who very much enjoys his hobby,…but I honestly at times do a good amount of pixel peeping, when I shouldn’t be pixel peeping.  I love the ergonomics and functionality of the camera, and the FPS and reach of the crop are very nice when you need it.  I recently upgraded to a 5D III and the IQ is far superior.  Some people might say this is a lame comment, but as some other posters have said,..there is just something about a FF image,…there is…  The current prices that we have seen for a new 7D body are interesting,…looks like a replacement is coming soon,..so as another poster said,..a used body or a refurbished one may be a good choice..
