Pricewatch Deals / Re: Get 6% Cashback on the EOS-1D X from B&H
« on: March 20, 2013, 01:28:14 AM »
I purchased the 85mm f1.2 L at a heavy discount over Christmas time and still got the 2% rebate.  I have a hard time believing they won't honor the rebate.  When no rebate is available, they typically just don't list it.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 100D Detailed Specs Appear
« on: March 18, 2013, 07:27:19 AM »
If I wanted a body this small I'd invest in a m4/3 mirrorless system instead.  When I think of wanting something more compact, I think of both the body AND the lenses.  A super small body will be really unbalanced when you add larger lenses to it, even EF-S.  Pricing is kind of out there too.  Meh.

I use a Vello Shutter Boss (wired) and have had no problems with it at all:

For 53 bucks you can't go wrong.  They also have  wireless version for about twice that, but wireless isn't needed for time lapses and, given battery life concerns, I think wired is preferred.

Right now I'm just feeling irritated they didn't include GPS and wireless in the 5D MIII.  Given the $3500 price tag and the fact that they included it in a smaller, cheaper body suggests they could have to me.  I could get a lot of use out of both of those and I hate attaching bulky accessories to the camera.  Blah.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon Announces the Canon EOS 6D DSLR
« on: September 17, 2012, 07:00:00 AM »
Right now I'm trying to figure out why they didn't integrate wireless and GPS in their $3500 5D MIII.  Kind of irritating as they would both be extremely useful.

EOS Bodies / Re: 4 More DSLRs Coming in 2012? [CR2]

I would like to see Canon actually deliver products they have already announced before announcing more.   The typical amount of time between announcement and availability of products has become a joke.  This is mainly true for their "pro-level" gear.

While not open source, if you are willing to use your Mac another option is Pixelmator

http://www.pixelmator.com/

While most of my post processing is done with LightRoom and Nik plugins, Pixelmator has a ton of functionality and at $30 is a steal.  You can grap it off the Mac App Store.

Lenses / Re: Tripod collar for 70-300L: Does it really exist?
« on: April 01, 2012, 02:19:29 PM »
That thing has been backordered for ages.  I've tried picking one up off of Ebay, but there is nothing but knock-offs on there as well, making me wonder if they have ever truly been for sale.  At this stage I'm getting tempted to try one of the $40 knock-offs...

Site Information / Re: Canon Rumors Site Information

Any chance the redesign will also include a mobile version of the site?  A while ago there used to be a mobile version, but it has been missing for some time.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5D Mark 3 Queue @ B&H
« on: March 22, 2012, 12:28:15 PM »
I am sorry for any dissatisfaction and happy to report we have received our first batch of EOS 5D Mk III bodies and body+kit packages. They should be shipped this afternoon. You will receive an email with a UPS package tracking number. UPS will be able to confirm the tracking number several hours later as we affix the number before the package is handed off from us to UPS. We expect our next batch to be delivered to us next week.

Is it safe to assume that if our Order status is still "back ordered" that we won't be part of the first shipment?

I just received that exact same email.  Not sure if it means I didn't make the first batch or not.  I ordered about 4 hours after the initial announcement, so I won't be too surprised if I did miss it.

Just received an email from B&H related to my 5DMk3 Body order:

Dear xxxxxxx:

Technical Support / Re: Ants in 5D2
« on: March 15, 2012, 08:12:07 AM »
Don't do anything which kills the ants in the camera. Open the camera up as much as possible and set it in a protected area, preferrably open to outdoors, and let the ants leave. There's nothing within he camera which should encourage them to stay there.

Agree with this.  You could try setting it out with the card door open and spray some sugar water or something next to it.  Kill the ants as they come out.  Unfortunately, if you do that, you'll have to watch the whole time though as a food source may make them want to make a home in there.  Maybe that isn't such a good idea after all...
