« on: April 12, 2013, 03:32:49 PM »
Just testing if i can post a pic here, if so heres the Canon 100L and canon bracket.Sorry struggling to insert an image, ah i think thats it?

Its rock solid stable compared to the usless £8 used bracket i got off ebay, and im pleased with the illumination. Its only 1:1 but its a start.

Macro / Mp-e and 100mmL sharpness
« on: April 10, 2013, 06:06:19 AM »
Hi

With the MP-e at 1:1, is there any difference in the sharpness compared to the canon 100mm L  (assuming close macro work)?

Speedlites, Printers, Accessories / Eneloops and charger
« on: March 25, 2013, 11:24:21 AM »
Hi

Just got 10 eneloops (3rd gen, AA 1900mAh) with a BL700 charger, couple of questions.

1. Does it matter if i part charge them before turning off the charger, (ie travelling before fully charged)?
2. Should the batteries be removed from a flashgun if not being used for x amount of days or weeks?

Surprised my eneloops only had 20mAh in them from new.

Speedlites, Printers, Accessories / 430 or 600 reach
« on: March 19, 2013, 08:18:40 AM »
Hi
I read the industry standard rating for the flash strength, but how does that actually translate into reach? How much further can you light a subject with a 600 over a 430?

thanks

Simon

Macro / canon 100L+tubes+2x converter ?
« on: March 18, 2013, 04:19:54 AM »
HI
Anyone tried Canon 100L + Kenko tubes + canon2x converter MkIII?

Any examples? or a big no no

Also what exactly is the magnification with all the tubes? please tell me its more than 2:1
If it is 2:1 will the 2x converter make it 4:1 (albeit quality degraded a bit)

Lenses / Need to test my lens for sharpness
« on: March 09, 2013, 05:24:18 PM »
Hi
Ive been thinking lately my 70-200 2.8 Mk2 canon lens(on 5dmk2) isnt as sharp as it was, so i was out today and purposly did some test shots (nothing scientific).
Situation: tripod, remote release, mirror lockup, i used a range of F stops, on iso 100, and no IS with manual focus. My eyes are nearly 20/20 (actually i havent checked the diopter yet)

I manually focused using live view x10 so the center was looking perfect (subject was some static log pile

One thing i will add and i dont know if it means anything, when i view live view at x10, it looks nice and sharp and i take a picture, then zoom in on that image on the camera to the max which then looks the same as live view at x10, and it doesnt look quite as sharp as the live view. There probably isnt much in it but im sure i can detect it.

Looked at the results tonight at 100% and i dont think its as sharp as it should be, or infact, as it was on day one. I might be wrong.

I am a pixel peeper for a very good reason. Stock sites are pixel peepers so i need to be.
Hopefully is me doing something wrong.

What is the best way to test it at home?

Thanks for any help

Speedlites, Printers, Accessories / First flash unit advice?
« on: March 08, 2013, 06:24:32 PM »
Hi
Never having used a flash gun since getting my 5dmk2, i think its time.
Thinking of using it for fill flash outdoors for flowers and closer subjects hopefully insects or maybe indoors.
I have studio lights with softboxes for studio so dont really need it for that.
Will I be happy enough with a 430EX II or will i see much advantage with the 600 EX RT
Dont particularly want to spend more if i dont have to.
the 600EX RT is about £190 more (as there is a canon rebate on the 600's at the moment.)

Ive read this so far which was quote interesting

Any advice appreciated

Lenses / Just wondered, will this fit.....
« on: March 07, 2013, 09:30:11 AM »
Hi

Just wondered can i fit my 8070-200 canon MK2 lens with the 2x mkIII converter onto my old canon 450d?
Would be nice to have a 640mm reach sometimes.
