Photography Technique / Taking HDR shots
« on: June 29, 2014, 05:29:18 PM »
I've always been confused about taking HDR shots.  In order to anything "HDR" on my T3i, I have go into the menu and configure my Exposure Compensation to take a Normal-Under-Over image.  So I have to click the shutter 3 times, and them do some magic in post processing.

Is this the same thing that is required on better cameras, like the 5D III, 6D, etc?

(and if my assumptions are wrong, please tell me)

Lenses / Lens repair?
« on: June 15, 2014, 07:54:52 AM »
I was browsing Craigs List the other day, and someone is trying to sell a broken  28-70mm f2.8L lens for $150.  It looks like the EF-mount has broken off (based on the pictures).. I have no idea what state the glass is in.

The question is... how much will Canon charge to repair something like this?  The seller wants $150, but I'm thinking it's worth closer to 0, depending on what Canon tells me when I call them tomorrow.

What do you guys think?  What's your experience on repairing older lenses like this?

Lenses / Lens prices..?
« on: February 12, 2013, 03:28:15 PM »
I saw a Craigs List ad for a EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III lens for under $100.

If I recall correctly, this lens was recently referred to as the worst lens in Canon's lineup...is that true?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / New camera...shooting macros
« on: May 10, 2012, 02:20:55 PM »
I'm on the cusp of ordering a new setup from the Canon Loyalty Program.  The current plan is to get a T3i with the 24-105 F4/L lens and the 50mm F1.8 prime.  (Vegas odds makers are wagering 100:1 that Canon releases the T4i about 90 seconds after I receive this, but I'm just tired of waiting...)

So the question is...how usefull will either lens be for macro photography?  I spend most of my time on portraits and landscapes, but my wife loves taking pictures of flowers.

EOS Bodies / What to buy...?
« on: April 28, 2012, 09:07:47 PM »
I've finally got the cash (and permission!) to get a proper camera.  I do some event work, as well as some portrait and landscape shots.  I shoot a lot of video.

For a while it seemed like the T4i might be the camera worth waiting for (for it's rumored video features), but it's nowhere to be seen, SO

I'm looking at a a T1/T2/T3i and the 60D.

When I line all 4 of those cameras up, they are all basically identical.  They all have DiGiC 4 all (but the T1) have the vari-angle viewfinder, all (but the T1) have the same 18 MP sensor...Is there really any difference among them?

At the moment, I'm almost leaning toward getting a T1 or T2 as a stop-gap until Canon decides what it wants to do this year.  The Canon Loyalty Program makes some of the pricing on the low end cameras pretty compelling.

So please school me... what's the difference?

:O

Canon General / File details...

I was looking at the file details on an old picture I took.  Note the "max aperture" of 3.625....what does that mean?

EOS Bodies - For Video / T4i Video
« on: March 05, 2012, 04:28:59 PM »
I've been thinking...there's a lot of hate from "elite" and "proper" photographers regarding video in SLR bodies.  Canon might be in agreement with this haters, considering the marginal video improvements in the 5D3.

I'm wondering if there might be more video improvements to the T4i.  That would make the snobs professionals happy and give some of us what we really need.

Thoughts?

EOS Bodies - For Video / Videos and AutoFocus
« on: February 22, 2012, 06:11:39 PM »
I recently learned that none of the current cameras in the Canon lineup offer auto-focus while filming video.   >:(

Is there any indication that any of the new 5D or T4i bodies will support autofocus?

(I do just enough video recording that Im thinking about getting an entry level Nikon, just for this purpose...)

When I saw this, it got me wondering...

EF-S 18-135 II
This lens will have a silent autofocus motor geared to video. It will arrive with the new Rebel T4i. This has shown up in a US retailer inventory system. No price for the kit with the T4i.

Afterall, what use is a silent motor if it doesn't focus while recording...
