EOS Bodies / Help with broken 7d, loyalty program, and more
« on: August 16, 2014, 12:12:15 AM »
With all the talk about the 7dii, I grabbed my previously trusty 7d only to find it won't boot.  Tried multiple otherwise good batteries (tested in 5diii also) and replaced the clock battery, so it is not the battery.  Also tried to reboot by holding down the shutter button while empty of battery and cards.  Also tried cycling all the door buttons, no joy.
My summary is that I've done all I can and it needs a trip to repair, for out of warranty repair, unless anyone else has a shining idea.

So these thoughts come to mind:  Is there a current loyalty program to trade broken bodies towards new?  I could not find one but it may be a well kept secret.  Or rephrased should I plan to use this body to apply to loyalty program.

Is it worth it to fix this body given a guesstimate that it will run $350 + even with CPS or should I save toward a future new body?

If there was only one axis of decision fix or not it would be an easy decision.  The other considerations make it interesting as a decision.

Camera Body Gallery / Shot with an EOS-M
« on: April 16, 2014, 10:39:42 PM »
Got a chance to sit sideline at an NBA game.  The camera rules indicated on the ticket were that no detachable lens camera/ lens combinations were allowed, and there were plenty of security types prowling the court when play was not in progress.

So I thought that the EOS-M and a 24-70 lens might sneak by, and it did.  Needless to say no flashes were allowed either, but the light was surprisingly good.

I prefocused on the basket and tried to catch action that occurred around the net the best shot is below.  Surprisingly the 24-70f 2.8 was almost enough lens.  The pros that were shooting the game were firing the 1dx and what looked like a 200f2.   Rebound photo ƒ/2.8  50.0 mm  1/800   800     Shutter speed priority AE

And a second one showing static crowd picture:

Animal Kingdom / Beaver Shots

I rarely see Beaver despite there being signs of them all around.  Both of these were taken with the 70-200is usm ii with a 1.4xiii extender.  This guy was sitting about 20 feet from a bridge in Fanno creek park in Portland, a biker told me to look when he saw my camera, I was expecting a nutria.  You were all expecting an animal ..... right?

EOS Bodies / 7d noise question is it normal?
« on: August 25, 2012, 02:39:52 PM »
Here are some examples:

I've been shooting a variety of photos with 7d 5dii and iii and the 7d while a good tracking and focusing camera, has not lived up to my expectations of improving reach because the files don't stand up to any cropping because of high noise and what I think is just poor iso performance.  Even uncropped files look fuzzy.  I've included files from DPP of clouds (since they are at infinity focus to take poor focusing out of equation), but virtually all the photos show the same graininess and I think that is keeping them from attaining sharpness, really at any iso.  The metadata should be right nest to the photos to show the iso and other information.
So is this normal or outside of normal for a 7d, and what should I do bought the camera about 6 months ago.
