Canon branded ink seems to cost the same almost anywhere, so why not get free stuff and shipping too? :)

Software & Accessories / Macro and Tripods and offset
« on: January 24, 2014, 09:36:16 AM »
I started experimenting using an actual tripod instead of a monopd. Truth be told, not a big fan of the process compared to a monopod.

I did find myself wanting a way to hang the camera off to the side because positioning the tripod was not really possible for what I wanted with the stuff in the way on the ground. Not much, but 6 to 12 inches of offset would have helped.

I really wouldn't want to buy a whole new tripod, so is there some sort of attachment that could give me an offset?

Lenses / TSE + Macro?
« on: January 16, 2014, 08:01:13 AM »
Is there a tilt-shift lens with macro capabilities?

I did come across this: http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/hartblei_120_4_pc_n10 but it is certainly priced as a professional piece of equipment.

Is there a combination of tubes and/or extenders that would work with current Canon TSE lenses to provide acceptable macro capabilities? I have access to a 24mm II TSE lens to experiment with- just not sure where to start.

Free 4x6 and/or 8.5x11 glossy photo paper packs *and* free shipping with qualifying ink purchases through Canon USA.

Not sure how long the promo lasts, but I needed some ink anyways, and the price was the same as elsewhere.

I purchased 3 ink tanks at $15 each and was eligible for both photo papers and the shipping deal.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5D Mk 3 and 1D Mk IV raw images
« on: September 07, 2013, 05:19:20 PM »
I am noticing a difference between the raw images from those two cameras using the same lens.

The 1D IV images seem to have more pop and depth, for lack of a better description.

Anyone else notice this, or am I seeing things?

Software & Accessories / Canon Close Up Lens and Step-Up rings
« on: August 10, 2013, 08:49:07 AM »
I am wondering how well an "oversized" Close Up Lens works with step-up rings.

As an example, the 100mm L macro and 180mm macro both take different size filters. Step-up rings are relatively inexpensive compared to multiple copies of the Close Up lens 500D.

If I purchased one to fit the 180mm, would there be issues using it + step-up ring on the 100mm?

Thanks

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Avoiding "blown out" reds, how to?
« on: August 02, 2013, 08:38:19 AM »
I have noticed that images I take of red or close to red or violet things like flowers never seem to work out properly. The red channel on the histogram is always much further to the right than green, blue or the regular histogram.

What are some ways to handle this problem?

Thanks

Speedlites, Printers, Accessories / Crazy Fast Shipping from Canon
« on: July 03, 2013, 04:41:22 PM »
I ordered a refurb 600ex-RT yesterday around 4 and it showed up this morning via FedEx at around 9.

Came from Wisconsin, so they must have thrown it on a truck right away.

Software & Accessories / Sensor Loupes
« on: March 10, 2013, 02:50:12 PM »
I just received an Opteka. Pricing was reasonable and construction seems OK.

However, the focus distance is fixed and it seems to be focusing just above the sensor. I didn't notice a "For XXX Camera" option when I ordered it.

It helped, it picked up a couple of bigger pieces.

Any user feedback on other sensor loupes?

Thanks

EOS Bodies - For Stills / DSLR and zoom lens for ~$1,000.00 USD?
« on: August 28, 2012, 01:22:51 PM »
Given a budget of $1k USD, what new (new as in not used) items would you buy?

If that budget could be stretched to $1.5k (max, no more), what changes?

Looking for "ease of use" (amateur, no prior DSLR experience) and a zoom lens.

I am initially drawn to the T4i with the 18-135 IS STM lens kit and possibly the 40 shorty.

PowerShot?

Thanks.
