It is not very loud as reported by the OP - BUT there is indeed a minute change in pitch/sound.  Like a spring was wound or tightened 1/4 of a turn (5D3 + 24-70mm f/2.8L II).  No discernible change in pitch with 70-200mm IS.

To dislodge or remove the lens from its breach-lock system mount you need to deliverately press the release button and twist the lens barrel counter-clockwise.  Any veteran canon user knows this.

You can knock-off the lens if it was half-hazzardly mounted and not hearing that re-assuring click.

I know I shouldn't be picky, but the Canon FD system was a 'breech-lock'. The EOS system ( and virtually all other systems ) use a bayonet mount. 

I stand corrrected.

There is no problem with your camera.  You see the bars when the camera is on, in live view AND the lens is covered. Remove the lens cap and you'll see it disappear.

If that's mine, I would cut and surround it with Plexiglas and display it in my desk.

May be a way to use the old flash is to set it on an optical/wireless trigger and fire it in manual mode.

Yep. My 1980 Sunpak optical trigger still works to-date and I'm using it with the Vivitar 285 which I'm using as a background or highlight flash in manual mode.

DPP's workflow has nothing to compare to the likes of LR4, etc.
I am not a novice as far as Windows filing system is concerned, so I do my own workflow/filing system
I did a wedding a week ago with over 800 shots to worked on . .
I always use DPP to download the RAW files and 'fine tune' the colors/WB
I found that my 5D3 + 24-70mm f/2.8 II + 600EX-RT combination offers less post processing
Then I generate TIFF files for selected frames
I use Photoshop for portrait editing  . . . .

Get onto the top steps of the Lincoln Memorial.  Setup your tripod and shot the Mall with the Monument as a backdrop.  Use you widest lens.  If you can, do the shoot in the evening or sunrise.  Then get to your hiking shoes and visit:  NASA museum, the Natural History Museum as well as the American History Museum.  Enjoy!

Yes, that is the third thing I did when I got consistent results. I forgot about it when I posted earlier...

All the time while the test was conducted, except when acquiring the target after moving from 25x or 50x the focal distance, or when I tested it at 5' and 10' prefered shooting distance for portrait.

No, you shouldn't.  If you change the framing, you're changing the size of the target image projected on the sensor. Further away (at same focal length) means smaller target covering fewer pixels on the sensor and thus a lower resolution.  When you use a real test chart (ISO 12233 type), you must frame the full target for the resolution values to be accurate (there are framing marks on the chart).

Thanks a lot neuro!  I was suspecting the same but can't quite pin down the reason until you put it together.  What a relief! For a second there, I thought I have a bad copy.  My salute to you!

I have AFMA my 5D3 and 24-70mm f/2.8 using FoCal v1.6.  I’m getting variations on the results and wondering if is this normal? I've searched the internet and the FoCal site for comparison but none that I could find except from this forum. 

Comments are welcome.

I had a similar problem some time back and it boiled down to two things:

• I had the center mast of the tripod up and that caused some sway. The camera should be absolutely steady.
• I was doing it in the morning and the sun was going in and out of the clouds so variable light...

Other than that, was your battery completely charged?

Batteries were fully charged. The camera was mounted on a video tripod with fluid head and was weighted further by a 10 lb barbel.  The height of the target (bullseye), and the center of the lens were the same. What concerns me is I am not getting a consistent sharpness 'reading'. Shouldn't I get the same resolution 'reading' even if the distance are varried?
