One of my instructors did a lot of shooting of climbers.  I am enclosing a link to her website.  You can contact her and see what she used.

If it is not lastolite Amazon has a great return policy. All lastolite products are well marked.

Technical Support / Re: 10 Stop ND Filter - Metering

If you are like me and have trouble calculating 10 stops there are iPhone apps like NDTimer and Long Time that will do the hard work then use your histogram to fine tune.

Software & Accessories / Re: Portrait Professional

I do not use Portrait Professional but I use Perfect Portrait 2 from OnOne and find it is simple and easy to use and speeds up my work flow when taking pictures at family events.  I use it because it came with with a whole suite of plugins for LR and PS.  I like the results and generally use less softening than the default.  It is easier than using NIK, Lightroom, or Photoshop.

Lenses / Re: first trip to England any recommendations ?

If you are going to be in London you may want to check out Hairy Goat photo tours.  I enjoyed the mystery tour where you meet a guide and walk around for a couple of hours and they will point out all sorts of interesting places that you would not normally go.  They have a website you can visit and respond to emails promptly.

EOS Bodies / Re: Moving to 6D from 5DII
« on: December 13, 2012, 04:21:15 PM »
I am staying with my 5DII.  I have no interest in the 6D.  In the future I would consider the 5DMIII.  Of course there is not a lot of info on the 6D yet so I guess I could be convinced it would be an upgrade but I doubt it.

Lenses / Re: Best Value "Normal" Lens for 6d?
« on: December 02, 2012, 06:40:41 PM »
I am a beginner but the BEST VALUE I think would be the 24-105 F4 L.  It is cheaper as a kit lens on the 6D and if you don't like it you can probably sell it without losing any money.

Is there a need for ND filters if you bracket your exposures and use photoshop to blend in the correct exposures?  I took a course at Maine Multimedia this summer and my instructor said she quit using ND graduated filters and used photoshop with multiple exposures.

Cayenne,

I don't know all of the resources in the New Orleans area but I suggest that you consider stopping by the New Orleans Area Camera Club. http://www.gnocc.org/

I am a member of my local camera club and they are a great resource.  There are monthly competitions which are judged by independent professional photographers and educators.  They have classes before the meetings but best of all they know who what is available and who is good and who is not.

Last year I got a great deal on my 5D MarkII through a link on this website.  It was only available for about a week. I guess that the MAP is going to stop that?

There is a good podcast by Martin Bailey #235 and #236 in March 2010 comparing these two lenses.  You may want to check out his website.
