Software & Accessories / Re: DSLR Slider?
« on: May 23, 2013, 04:43:25 AM »
If you already have a slider you should check out the Genie, just add it to your kit and you've got motion control on all your existing gear, easy to use as well.  www.syrp.co.nz/products
I've just started to shoot video with my DSLR recently but that looks like a great piece of kit. What a pity I don't have 1k $ lying around. It seems a good bit more reasonable than buying a proprietary element which can only be used with the slider it was designed for.

Lenses / Re: What 3 lenses do you dream of and long to own?

14mm f/2.8L II
35mm /f1.4L
85mm f/1.2L II

Got the later two, can't get myself to invest in the 14L.

I'd say your best bet is the Incase x Ari Marcopoulos which was already linked on the last side. I use that when I go to a city (I absolutely hate how the 'regular' stuff from LowePro, ThinkTank, etc. looks).

It fits my 1Ds III with the 35L attached + 85L + 24-70L + iPad

The stuff from Billingham is also great (had a Hadley Pro back in 5D II times) but you need one of the huge ass bags to fit a 1-series in it with the lens attached plus I prefer the sling way of carrying of the Incase.

EOS Bodies / Re: Announcements Before Photokina
« on: September 05, 2012, 11:02:52 AM »
well i think it´s pretty clear what i want?!

i want a FF with a better AF then the 5D MK2 ... something the new camera sure will have.
and im willing to give up some build quality for it.
I think that's what most people hope for.
5D II sensor, 7D auto focus, I could even live with the 60D body as long as it has a joystick for AF selection. The 5D II is still a capable camera, it's just that the auto focus is straight from hell, even the new 650D is better.

So I've sold my 1Ds III while it still gives good money (awesome cam, just too big and heavy for frequent traveling) and hope for a 6D or whatever they call it. If it's not gonna happen at Photokina, 5D III will be the only choice (on the other hand, that retails new at the equivalent of 2700 € here in Switzerland, so I can't complain, that's 10% less than the rest of Europe) and makes it even more interesting what Nikon shows up with.

Lenses / Re: Center Pinch Lens Caps
« on: August 08, 2012, 04:23:14 AM »
I have bought center-pinch lens caps from Amazon for all my L glass. It's a lot easier this way while the lens hood is attached.

I keep the original ones, though. Might need them for resale of the lenses.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: FF advise (mainly stills)

I'd suggest to choose between the 5D II and the 1Ds II, they should be at a similar price point used.

5D II has a better performance at high ISO (I guess ~ 1 Stop)
1Ds II has better auto-focus

I've considered the 1Ds II because the fact that only the center AF point is reliable on the 5D II was quite annoying after a while. If you don't need live view, I don't see much speaking against the 1Ds II.

Then there is the 1Ds III which can be had slightly used around 2500 €... but then you move even closer to 5D III price levels.
