This is just plain awesome  8)

Hey there,

Long time reader, first time poster.

I recently filmed an engagement session, and wanted to utilize a shallow depth of field in bright light without an ND filter. So, knowing that I would end up slowing the footage down to 40%, I cranked up the shutter speed in order to hit around f/2. The results? Well, see for yourself:

Lenses / Re: EF or EF-S for 7D/70D

As an APS-C user who want's to upgrade to FF in the next 2 years, I'm in a similar position.

I ended up buying an EF-S 10-22 for true wide-angle on APS-C and use EF primes for the 35 and 85mm.

My friend has a 17-55 2.8 I could borrow for vacations, I think it's the best general purpose lens for Canon APS-C and the IQ is really wonderful.

If you plan to keep the APS-C body for 1-2 years, and need a zoom, I'd recommend getting a used 17-55 2.8 and selling it afterwards. These Canon lenses hold their value surprisingly well..

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Sigma Announces New 30mm f/1.4 for APS-C

I am in the exact same position as you are, this announcement puts a bit pressure on me to sell the "old" 30mm faster..

I do not think the 30mm will best the 35mm, and will get the 35mm to be able to do a FF step up hopefully in the next 2 years.

If only that price would come down a bit..

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 7D - How bad is it? Really?

The ISO 1600 on the 7D is totally usable, whereas it was crap on my 400D (which should perform similarly to your 30D).

Very good job for your first effort!!!

Something I'd like to add: The bokeh of the 50/1.8 is quite nervous at certain apertures, maybe you could improve that by checking out how different aperture settings work with the background.

I just registered here to say: As an ex user, don't get the 17-85, you would regret it.
From what I have heard and seen, the 15-85 will be a much better pick.
